To my knowledge, it interacts with the user's mind only when one holds it directly; simply wrapping in cloth when not in use was good enough so far. ...To be honest, I am not sure whether it works through suits and such; probably does. I'll check it. And sure, I'll ask Steve for you. I am mostly done with preparing for the departure anyway.

EDIT: oh, and send message with relevant mission info (briefing etc) to Lyra so Lenglon can be added to roster. No need for you to type it out pw. [/b]
Upon receiving a message on my wrist-pad, I stop waiting for Flint to understand my question and get to reading...
when I'm done I look up at Flint and "mrowr?"
I then type up a message on my wristpad to him, slowly as always.

Pan sighs and deactivates his stealthskin.
"Sorry, It's becoming a bit of a habit to have that on. Do continue"
"... I... That doesn't sound like something one should have while in the Sword."
"I just hope you haven't been using that in the barracks."

Flint sighed and shook his head, looking down at his beeping wristpad. He started talking, saying what he thoght.
"It's... Look it's nothing really. There's nothing to worry about. I'm committed to this, I believe in what we're fighting for, hell, sometimes I'm having a blast here, it's the most fun I've had since... well, since a long time ago, and sure there are bad things and good things and people I like but I just... I don't like where we're heading, I don't like knowing that my actions could result in the deaths of hundreds of innocent people and I've been going back and forth, thinking of leaving, but then I couldn't, I wanted to help here and I couldn't leave you alone and... And I don't know. I just don't know. So I'm trying not to think about any of it."
Flint wasn't really focusing on what the message was saying as he was speaking. He had read the words three times but his mind was not focused on their meaning. It took him a couple of seconds after he stopped talking for his mind to stop thinking about things and focus on the message.
"I'm fine really. I just need some time to think, that's all. Or maybe to stop thinking. Maybe it would be better if I just tried to follow orders and did not care about anything. I don't know."

He looked up at Lyra.
"Yes, I'm going to the mission. Are you coming too?"

"I get that you're worried about your actions killing innocents. But you realize that if we don't do anything, the UWM and their regime will just get those people killed anyway. I'm sure you realize that even if the UWM didn't exist, even if we didn't exist, those people would die anyway, right? Everyone dies, old man. Sometimes the good and the innocent must perish so that the rest of us may survive.

And you want an order to follow?"

Pan puts on his military hat and puts a cigar between his teeth.

"Then you get in your goddamned tin can, rain down on that planet like the steel wrath of ARM and wreck the Haebi so hard it won't know wether to shit or go blind. Then you jank out it's fucking brain and get back here in one piece. That's an order, trooper, straight from the De Bergerac Commissariat. Am I making myself clear?"

The man walked up to the AM's stall thingy booth thing, "Erm.. Can I get a.." He looks at the price board thing for a moment. "..Monoatomic Machete and a hand laser?" Buy a monoatomic machete and a hand laser, but seeing how the briefing was over, he walks over to the rec room.
Consider yourself moved and your weapons bought.

[WIKI]
I want to write a program that allows me to stop providing power to the Rainbow Cannon either some time after the trigger is pressed or when the suit's energy level drops below a certain point. Could I do that? I'm OK with you saying no. I have +2 Aux. I bought and installed a switch for cutting power to the Rainbow Cannon a while back, I just never spent enough time to write a program to control it.

I want something that can give Gilgamesh some extra juice for when I need to run the Rainbow Cannon's more powerful functions while retaining mobility, something like that auxiliary power they are always using in Star Trek. I have 5 tokens to spend on this. Could I get a secondary capacitor? Or some sort of generator that I can use for a short time before it overheats? Or is it better if I went with a bluerad battery?
You can try, though if you get an overshoot or something your character might choose to override the program.

Big battery pack is cheapest. Generators are more, but also available.
Go ahead and write that program then. (+2 Aux) Overrides on overshoot is fine. I don't expect it to shoot the gun for me, I just want to actually be able to shoot a lower power shot when I roll well, since right now some of the modes are "full power or nothing".

How much for a generator then?
What if I traded in my rechargeable mining laser battery for a bigger one that is connected both to the mining laser and to the battlesuit,
essentially trading my ability to give the mining laser to others for more power?
You get the program pretty much perfect. A few imperfections but nothing major; in particular it looks like there's a buffering delay between using the program and it activating the changes you want. (It takes one turn to set up, so you can't use the program and fire on the same turn)

How much extra power do you want? What do you want to be able to do with it? A larger generator will work, but we need to figure out how big.

Oh sure, put some pressure on me why won't ya.

But yes, I'll try to do an actual speech/briefing once preparations are over. Blops equipment is aaaalmost assigned, so then we can finalize teams, divide equipment and prototypes and such, go over last details, brief people IC, and we'll be ready to drop. I'll try to make it speedy.

Quote
You can choose where you land.
Thank you for the maps. I can assume blue is deeper areas and red is higher?

Can you describe a bit how changing brains for manips works, and what skills are involved? And can I get that 'output' you said you'd give to check brain status, or would you prefer to remove that and just go for straight med roll?

Finally, how are we being dropped exactly? You mentioned individual pods, could we drop vehicles if we wanted?

EDIT: oh, and send message with relevant mission info (briefing etc) to Lyra so Lenglon can be added to roster. No need for you to type it out pw.

Yep, darker is deeper
As long as you keep the brains in their individual life support systems, then all you need to do is roll Aux to uncouple them and install the new brain. And the Output thing is already on it.

We were planning on pods, but we can use shuttles if you want.

Done and done I suppose.

((Yeah, briefing is over))

"Alright, that's it for now. Let's get out of the ground teams way. I'll issue equipment before we leave."

Team fund stuff:
-1 Spektr (5)
-1 goop thrower (3)
-3 goop reloads and one namite (4)
-1 laptop plus cables/connectors  (1)
-1 Exosuit plus battlesuit plate on chest and helmet for Yancy (5+4)
-Battlesuit plate for chest and helmet for Thaddeus' MkIII  (4)
-1 Monorazor machete  (Borrowing from the armory per PW)

Personal stuff:
Go to the armory and trade in the unused MkII suit (+5 tokens), the unused laser rifle (+2 tokens) and with the other five tokens in my inventory (5), buy a MKIII. After that, go and watch some TV.

Look at all this [wiki]

You head to the rec room and turn on the TV. The channel you start on is nothing but static, and the other channels you flip to seem to have some sort of weird interference, the tracking seems off on half of them as well.

"Who broke the tv?!"

Gallivant around the hangar like an antelope in a fat spacesuit with my sprung stilts for a bit. Then go to the briefing and try not to smash head on roof.
Normally I'd roll to see how many times your hit your head on things, but because I want these missions to actually start someday soon, lets just say you went to the briefing room, un bonked.
Go to briefing room, escorted by mummies.

If your potion is done, the mummies have collapsed back into dust.

Briefing room go! Lest my kneecaps be Nyars'd.
Good idea.
Nodding to Lyra, Maurice left for the brief visit to the briefing room, and then went to the airlock once again.
Open the ROMANTIC BEGGAR case. Inspect the contents.

Quote from: Dr. M.Sanctor to: General Miyamoto
I have reviewed the briefing data of the missions, and I believe there is no need of my assistance with boarding mission; thus I focused on the ground one. I have sent the prototype data to Hephaestus requesting shipment for field-testing on this mission. This includes three Mk-II replacement suits and, more importantly, two cans of fleshknitter - one per team. I do hope they can be manufactured in time for the next shipment.
I believe there are at least two medics overall on the list - Kyle Johnson and Ryan Jorgensen; as such, it appears prudent to have them assigned to different squads. They may be no professional field surgeons, but they both appear quite experienced, and I hope that might be just enough; in a pinch, there also are a number of people without dangerous misconceptions about first aid and medicine in general, but they probably should be called upon only in case of emergency.
From what I have gathered, the raid is planned to be very quick, and fast on the move, so there should be no need for cryo-equipment for preserving the brains; it also means no time nor place for complex medical help, so it seems most wise to have each of the team medics have a single Emergency Kit and a can of medifoam; a can of fleshknitter, due to ease and quickness of use would also be of help, if the Hephaestus approves its inclusion in the shipment.

Furthermore, given the delicate nature of the ground mission, I believe I have something that could be of certain help. I am speaking of the Dissector knife held in my possession, one which tries to turn the user into butchering maniac, yet can part probably any organic tissue without drawing blood or causing any pain. Now, it is a dangerous yet very valuable tool, requiring a determined hand to use, but if you wish, I could leave it to your custody, General. You would not let it be lost, destroyed, nor fall into wrong, woefully unprepared hands, I believe.
#Dr. M.Sanctor

ADD:
Does the cursed knife have to be directly in hand to work? Can it be used when suited? When holding it with a robotic hand?

Also, ask Steve.

Steve, I've been working on the mission preparation for General Miyamoto, and I need to ask you a few questions.

First, how would Haebi detect our troops presence on the planet? I know they will probably have to cut the "ground" to see and track the nerves to the brain cluster, but would that cutting be of any importance to unmasking our presence, or would the Haebi already be after them regardless of what they do to the planet while searching for the brain?

Second, is cutting necessary, or could it be circumvented - by simple observation, perhaps, or otherwise? Is there any difference to which tools to use to cut the ground - between melee weapons, lasers, and so on? Is it better to cut it cold, cauterise, or what?

Third, supposing the "cutting cold" variant, is cutting the Haebi "ground" flesh to look for the nerves a work for a Medical specialist, or Unconventional weaponry one?

Fourth, in your opinion, is it of any significant use to send the Dissector artifact knife with one of the teams instead of whatever other cutting implements, or it wouldn't make much difference?

Romantic Beggar's box contains what appear to be microscope slides, though much more heavy duty then normal in terms of construction. They're squares of thick plastic held together with a metal frame. Sandwiched between the plastic slides are thin sheets of what look like metallic tissue membranes.  The box, which has clearly been made to hold the slides, with little separate compartments for each one, holds maybe 25 slides.

For the effects of it to take hold, there has to be direct skin to knife contact. Otherwise it's a normal knife.

1. The second they land, the planet will know they're there. Maybe even before that if it has any eyes watching the skies. It's skin can feel them stepping on it like you feel an itch. It is gonna try and scratch it.

2. You can try to do it without cutting, but it might be much more difficult. And it shouldn't matter, though I would recommend doing it with a knife just to minimize damage and maybe not piss the thing off too much too fast.

3. It's not a roll at all, unless you're trying to very carefully dissect it or something, at which point it becomes med.

4.It probably wouldn't matter much in the long term, and it might cause one of them to go homicidal, so the negatives probably outweigh the positives.

Welcome aboard, new sacrifice to the gods of governmental efficiency!
Jobasio, seated in the best chair he could find, glances about the briefing room and the people gathered there.
He notes the fresh-faced, inexperienced looks worn by most of them, and he clicks his tongue uncertainly.
He pats the bright blue gauss rifle lying across his knees and murmurs under his breath, "I certainly don't envy those leading these missions, hmm?
Good thing we aren't them."

Then he looks up and says, rather more loudly and cheerfully, "Well, good luck on your little adventures, my friends!"
He smiles. "I'm sure you'll have those nasty death-plants thoroughly pruned and weeded in no time, eh? You'll be successful and back on ship faster than you can say 'oh gods it's got my legs help me'. See you soon!"

With a cheery wave and a nod of acknowledgement to those he recognizes- such as Vincent, Jason and Michael- he strolls back out of the briefing room, letting out a sigh of relief as he leaves its atmosphere of impending doom. He heads for the Armoury, ensuring his rifle hangs securely from his shoulder.

>Head to the Armoury. Greet the General if he's there.
Wait politely for a chance to ask the AM for an "eyepatch... something rather adventurous-looking, if possible. Perhaps with a antiquated nautical theme, like something from those gauche novelty fast-food restaurants that were pop up all over known space back in the day?"
You get your pirate eyepatch.
Go eat some food in the cafeteria. Need to build up calories. Then start making a small batch of bugs. Give them wings, hardened exoskeletons, antennas, and sensors on their body so that they can pick up on heat signatures and electrical impulses. Also include an adaptation so they can relay information to me without sensory overload when I ask for it.
Well, you eat a few hundred calories but your attempts to mentally connect with the hive prove unsuccessful. You can feel it there, but you're not quite getting through.

You get your knives, ropes and hooks for free.

((Miya is General Miyamoto, correct?))

If so:

Quote from: Ian Smith to General Miyamoto
Hello general, I would like to test a prototype for the mission, if possible. I noticed a MCP-II suit with the fleshknitter tank listed. I currently have no tokens, but understand that I will have to pay you back if it is destroyed during the upcoming mission, and would do so with the tokens I recieve in this and further missions. The main reason that I wish to test it is because this is my first mission, and I do not think my MKI suit will protect me against those dreaded plant-fungi alien things. I also asked Steve, in case you are busy.

((I already asked in OOC, but hadn't realized that I also had to ask IC, and just noticed.))

Edit:

"Hello, Steve? It is my first mission, and I was wondering if you could approve a prototype for my usage... I noticed a MCP-II suit with a fleshknitter tank listed, and that is what I would like to use if possible. I already messaged General Miyamoto about having it approved."

Ask Steve.

>Sure. Try not to lose it.

Run to briefing room. Well, saunter in, actually.
You saunter into the briefing room with an undeserved level of swagger.

Hows about we come to a little understanding. You can point your laser death stick at me, and if I do something too crazy, well, you do what you gotta do. After seeing that the TV seems to be broke, Thaddeus wanders over to Nyars shop. Upon seeing the box marked Amicable Amber, and realizing how many tokens he has, he heads over to Milno. "Hey boss? Gah, I hate asking, but, would you be willing to lend me eight tokens? There's a Nyars box over there that I have a pretty good feeling about. Problem is, I only have two tokens, and it costs ten. If, say, it seems like something that would be useless to you, I'll pay you back those eight tokens. If it turns out to be something useful, I get two tokens and it's all yours. I, of course, would be the one to test it, unless you would want to. How's that sound?"
