This is going to be more interview than meeting. The fact that you're here, with the exception of Jim, Milno, and Miyamoto, and perhaps one or two others [Simus glances at Feyri] means you're considering staying behind on Hephaestus to assist me in commanding it. I want to know why you would choose to stay behind, before I continue.
"Well, Miss Simus...I'm not good at fighty things. Or other useful things. But I can make stuff and fix stuff, and that's going to be good here, right?"

Well, now.

Flint, whether or not Hephaestus needs an on-site military man rather depends on these three
[Simus indicates Jim, Milno, and Miyamoto's feed], and how well they and Steve can keep the limelight on them. If they can, then Hephaestus might not be attacked again at all. However, even if some one does decide to come after this planet, or even this system, I think they would be in for a nasty surprise, even without the Sword in a position to assist.

I'm not sure I know your name, actually. If you mentioned it while me and Jim were discussing things, I don't think I heard it. Anyways, if you were to stay here, under my command, you would assist me in the supervision of Hephaestus, as well as coming up with new things to send to the front lines, equipment, vehicles, even soldiers.

Grate... yes, I could see you staying. I'm sure others wouldn't mind seeing you stay here than fighting on the front lines with the rest of the Sword. And I'm sure you could be of assistance at the same time. Like I said to him,
[she inclines her head to Saint] most of our work will be supervisory or technical.

Anyone else?

((Last chance to anyone else in the briefing room. I make one post in the morning, responding to anyone else and posing the next bit. And just so ya'll know, you're not the only candidates, I might seek out a person or two myself, though they get an additional question or two.))

Feyri holstered her rifle given the lack of..unGrateliness in Grate.

Anton speaks up. "I'll be staying. I haven't had much luck in actual fighting, and I firmly believe that I can make a bigger difference using my skills to make things rather than break things. Or to make things that break things, as the case may be. That year-long taste of HMRC service I got was more than enough action for me."

I'll stay only if there is no head engineer based here. Otherwise, off to war!

"I want to stay because I know that I cannot fight not without equipment far beyond my current means, my aim here is to help be it repair work or tinkering, the only thing I really want is for my work to be respected: I have done this for more than 20 years I know what I am doing"

Anton, I've seen what you can do, back on the planetoid. You're basically already accepted.

The one speaking in blue, from their VR session: Yeah, there's going to be a head engineer. That's me. You're not going to want to stay.

And you
[she indicates Corsair's character], a strong background, yes? And not a fighter, at least, not without more things to use, yes. I can see you staying here, too.

Okay, next thing: You know that since you will be staying here, we're going to be staying on objective time, to the Sword's relative. Anton, you'll remember this. It could very well be years for us before they return, though it'll only have been weeks, perhaps, for them. If you stay here, then you're stuck here for the long haul, there's no staying for a while, getting some stuff you want, and then skipping back to the front lines. We will, however, have communication with the Sword, though it might be a bit patchy at times since we're staying objective to them.

If you are fine with this prospect and still wish to remain, then there is one last part to this: An actual test of what you can do, design-wise. I will inform you more when we go to it.

"I'm certainly fine, though I'm not sure my body will be. Spending centuries in objective time does no wonders for us biological lifeforms. In that light, I think it's fair to say that anyone who stays will also need to undergo some... changes." Anton motions his hand toward Simus.

"Some of us..." he uses his gauntleted hand to knock on his right leg's metallic knee - "..less changes than others."

Got a pilot, pretty sure hes new. It cool if i begin replacing the cannon now?

Quote
I'd first like to:
-know what weapon you'll be placing on that thing
-get a message from your pilot to double check he knows what he's getting himself into

After that, you can replace your weapon. But that's it, after that you walk away from it.

Grate raises his hand. When called upon by Simus, he says:
"Miss Simus, when are we testing?"

"Apologies, my name is Steve Saint, although I've been going by Saint for simplicity.  I used to be a doctor, although I was very active with hobbyist robotics.

I have one more question.  How long do we have to make our final decision on this matter?  With the invasion coming soon, I would want to see how that goes before finalizing where I'll be staying for the forceeable future.  If I don't have time to decide, I don't want to stay."

((Come to think of it, I should really point out that I have no intention of staying.  I'm just roleplaying Saint, because he would very much consider it.  Sorry if that lead/leads to any confusion.))

((Eh, why the hell not. I'm too curious to not buy this. I can buy a gauss cannon later.))
Buy that big red thing. If I can do it this turn while still attending the Simus meeting, take it somewhere outside with Gilgamesh, open it and equip it if it doesn't present any obvious danger.

Else just go to the Simus meeting. Stand near her (but not close enough I would offend or inconvenience her) and look menacing. Be on the lookout for trouble. Be bodyguard.
If I see Auron coming, gently escort him out and tell him that it would be better for all involved if he wasn't here.

You buy the container but I'm gonna assume that you want to prioritize the meeting so I'm gonna have you go there as opposed to wander outside and test the weapon over a few turns.

Actually, maybe that's not such a hot idea. Instead, spawn myself with a rocket bike on a barren moon.

Test rocket bike's capabilities - can I pilot it exactly like any aircraft?

How much weight can it comfortably lift (pile on junk until it can lift no more)?

How quickly does it accelerate?

Check this armchair for hidden capabilities, like secret buttons and arcane whatsits.

Also, how difficult is it to land?

If I remember right...and it's been a while...it used pedals and a joystick. So not quite like an aircraft, but close.

Couple hundred pounds plus yourself.

Pretty damn fast. Push you flat in your seat fast.

There are buttons. They are not labeled.

Pretty easy. Assuming you're not going 600 miles an hour or something.

Create or replicate a light tank chassis, a fairly small one. Armor should be capable of taking light enemy fire, similar to a battlesuit. Attach a gauss cannon on the turret in a fashion so it doesn't explode or flip the tank when fired. Add a coaxial rapid-fire rocket gun for infantry and light air suppression. See if the tank can't have a single or an AI pilot. When schematics are done, send it up against some VR enemies, both infantry and mechanised.
You could do that with one pilot. Automated loading and such is useful.

Lets see...well it should be pretty damn good against infantry; though it's gonna lose out to battle suits if it just becomes a slugging match. Works fine against most lighter units though. Just don't let em get in close or you're gonna be eating grenades.

Melt the turret connecting the main gun to the tank.

Spoiler: Gorat 'Chin' Ivanos (click to show/hide)

((Smart money is on 'prediction'.))
[exo:6+1]

Good news, tank is no longer a problem. Bad news,  your brain is melting and now there's a battle suit spawning.

Spoiler: @Serious (click to show/hide)

Quote from: Auron to Jack
Hey there jack,
miyamoto has asked me to find a pilot for our tank before continuing work on it and i thought id give you first dibs seeing as how you helped me build it. You interested?

head out to the hangar and recollect my gear, have the repair bots fix my exosuit then re-equip it.

Send Jim or have Steve send Jim the infirmaries video and biofeedback data from when simus murdered me, demand justice once more.

Gear collected and repaired, video and data sent to jim. Cries for justice noted and (Probably) ignored.

Charge a dynamic AUX bonus.  Also check what connections my wristpad has available- can I access Feyri's MKIII exoskeleton?  Jim's synthflesh body?  Random cameras?  Shock implants?

Other than that, just patiently watch and wait.

No you can not randomly access the gear of other players. Gonna have to get yourself a wire and physically connect to them for that.
