XCom Journal: Faith becomes a coma.
Sixth mission is an abduction one, and a hard one too. Milno is rested enough to go, so we throw him in the ship rather then risk Mesk's fresh, pink flesh.
Mission Hot heart in france. Simple mission, just killing us some alien scum and not dying in the process. Good old bug hunt. The engagement area is a street littered with parked or abandoned cars and the street is flooded with rain, the black top hidden beneath the ankle deep deluge.
First step goes fine, we move up and already they're on us. Feyri and faith are underfire and their cover, a car, is already on fire and ready to blow by the time control comes back to me. Faith runs back, taking cover near the back while Feyri charges in and does some damage with that new pistol of hers, taking out one of the two sectoids firing on us.
Jim takes a faceful through a car but keeps trucking he fires a shredder rocket into the mix, mostly to take out their cover, but wipes out one of them in the process. Feyri takes a shot at one of them as it moves out of cover but doesn't hit. Whats worse is that it hits the car Feyri, milno and Jim are hiding behind, setting it afire. Jim takes out the only target we can see and runs for new cover; Milno joins him and patches jim up while feyri breaks off in the opposite direction. Faith brings another sectoid down but three thinmen show themselves at the same time.
In the resulting counter we lose sight of most of the targets, though feyri does pop one as it moves toward cover.
The next turn starts poorly but ends well. Faith misses her shot against a sectoid but Feyri charges in and gives Jim just enough sight through the fog of war to put a rocket straight into the cover of the remaining thinmen. Milno pops a smoke grenade and throws it to Feyri's location to give her some cover, but that elusive sectoid faith missed tags May. Two more run into the fray a moment later.
the next round is the last. Faith, using the Squad sight ability her promotions have gifted her with, uses Feyri's line of sight to put down the enemy she missed before and May, slightly ticked off about that scratch she got, puts a rocket into the last two sectoids. And we're done. Easy peasy.
Jim's promoted, again, as is Feyri and Faith, but Jim and May's injuries will put them out of commission for more then a week.
As we wait for them to heal we spot another ufo and bring it down. We've got no choice but to go get it, it's got far too many resources not to. Only 3 people with any experience are ready to go though, so we grab Mesk and a new guy named Thomas and get going.
Mission "Cursed Dawn". Thing went down in the middle of nowhere in america, so at least there won't be exploding cares and civies to worry about.
First turn is quiet, just a slow trudge forward, lots of short runs with overwatching on the end. Second is much the same. Faith breaks off to bet a better vantage point while the rest of us move forward. Mesk opens the main doors and finds himself face to face with no less then 6 sectoids. He de-asses the area with the quickness while faith puts a round into the closest one. We all move to attack, overwatching when we can, though the only good it does as they spill out onto the shattered and burning ruins of the forest around us is a single shot feyri lands with her laser pistol, doing little damage.
Next turn, Faith makes a hit but doesn't kill the sectoid. Annoying. Mesk charges in and hucks a grenade into the fray, killing two while taking cover from the third. It's a risky move, but it works. For now. It takes milno, feyri and thomas to kill the last one, but we bring it down. A survivor skuttles out of the darkness just long enough to cry for retreat and vanish.
We move to the side, sliding left to take out the bastard who called for retreat. Faith takes a shot but misses while Mesk overwatches and takes the last one down as it tries to move. It's quiet now, but the mission isn't over, so someone's still around.
We all move up into the ufo itself and take a moment to reload and regroup before continuing in. It continues like this for a while: slow movements, covering corners, always on overwatch, always wary, till finally we find our last target, another outsider. Again, Feyri pumps a shotgun blast into his chest and ends the fight without issue.
Mesk and Thomas both get support class assignments and promotions to squaddie.
Almost everyone has laser rifles by the time the next fight gets going, An abducion raid in india called "Driving Fear".
This time we're in a subway station and there is a storm brewing, lighting cracking overhead but no rain as of yet. Signs blink error messages and everything is silent, save for the thunder. We're moving slow, this place is huge and it's hard to tell where the attack will come from.
We hear something roaring in the dark. Something new that we haven't seen before. Doesn't sound like Sectoids or Thinmen, sounds bigger.
We move into a stopped subway train and find some sectoids. Feyri, new laser rifle in hand, takes one down easily. The second vanishes into the dark until it's turn starts, when it tries to rush us. Jim and faith both open fire, but it's faith that makes the shot. We move up again, The heavies Jim and May keeping the train covered with their massive machineguns while Milno and Feyri skirt along the outside, checking the sides for threats. Faith hangs back, Trying to keep the entire arena in her sight. Another pair of sectoids show up and one leaps into the train, straight into jim's withering fire. And it's quiet again.
It doesn't stay that way long. Floaters. Milno puts one down the second it shows and Faith opens fire with her pistol, as does jim with his machinegun, but they can't bring down the second. It gets high into the air as a third shows, but none of them can survive the combined force of jim, milno and feyri. They both go down without managing to get a hit, though feyri does narrowly avoid a plasma bath. Another shows it's face a second later but overwatch out of no less then three people bring it down before it can even gurgle rude alien words at us.
The last falls in mid flight, a nice hole punched through it's chest by faiths rifle.
Milno makes Lieutenant, Feyri captian and May corporal.
We roll out again almost as soon as we get back, assulting a landed ufo in a chinese forest. We've got 6 in our crew now and our missions are going well, but terror continues to increase across the world faster then We can deal wih it. We're doing what we can.
Oddly, the one in china is called "Red Dream". Damn communist aliens.
Cover is sparse at the LZ, but luckily nothing is attacking us right of the bat. Sectoids again, three of them once we get far enough. Milno sees them but Faith is the first to kill, her squad sight being very helpful. A grenade from May and a overwatch shot from mesk bring the others down.
Floaters are the next ones we find and Faith goes down to concentrated fire. Milno stablizes her the next turn as the rest of the team open fire. Feyri misses, Jim takes one down, Mesk misses, and May injures the last one badly enoug to chase him off. We're down Faith, our sniper, but she's safe for now. We have to get this mission done and get her home.
We make contact with the injured floater but he gets away, despite mesk's best efforts. We push deeper.
An outsider is waiting for us but Mesk gets around to his left and puts lasers into his face holes. These poor outsiders are never getting a break with us.
A turn later the injured floater comes back and gets mowed down by no less then 3 people at once.
Next several turns are spent finding nothing until milno manages to blunder into a cluster of 3 Thinmen. Luckly,Jim has a hand grenade for one of them and May has a machine gun for the other. The third vanishes into the dark somewhere. We find it again on the enemy turn when it splashes Jim with plasma. Mesk finishes it with a grenade. Mission done. No deaths, but Faith is in bad shape and Jim has yet another plasma scar to add to his already potmarked chest.
Mesk gets himself a promotion while Faith is gravely wounded for 8 days. Oh well, she'll have a Brand new laser sniper rifle waiting for her when she wakes up.
"Hey, Milno! Would you like some of this fine alcohol I have here? Got it way back when everything still worked!"
If he agrees, hand him a bottle of regular booze. If not, take a swig myself. Also, smoke a blue-smoke cigarette to celebrate.
"Would anybody else care for a smoke?"
If anyone volunteers, allow them to take one (BUT ONLY ONE) cigarette.
You pass out cigarettes to anyone who asks.
"Smoke'em if you got em."
I've got my own Bluesmokes.
Examine Jim's paper for the painkiller, then go and sit on my bunk and contemplate whether or not a laser that's been through multiple focusing chambers can still be directed through Fiber Optics, or if it'll just slice through. Have a bluesmoke whilst doing so.
You look over the paper and see what Faith and company saw before sitting on a bunk and smoking a bluesmoke.
[aux:5-1]
Hmm. Well it might work but it would probably have to be some very high energy compatible fiber optic to not melt or just cut through.
((Xcom is awesome. Wish I had it ))
"Here comes the question train," Feyri said, hinting sarcasm along with her respect at the young lad. "Can you ask Steve more about that anomaly?"
(
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/964/) You can get all 5 of the "original" ones here for 14 dollars or just the original one for 5 bucks. Or you could just torrent it, since I'm almost positive the original company isn't making money off it anymore.)
"Yep, love one. Thanks. Congratulations on the promotion Milno. I guess I should call you Boss now, like we did to the head nobs back in the army. That was some good work there. Shit was getting pretty fucked up inside before you sorted it. Cheers Boss."
"Brother Lars, do you mind if I have my sledgehammer back? I've got an idea of how to open doors a bit quicker next time. "
Smoke cigarette. Get sledgehammer off Lars if he gives it. See if I can procure a drink while it's going around.
"Oh, and Floki. Yeah, I guess you got me a good one. You're one up for now. Next time maybe......"
You get your hammer back and smoke while taunting Scrambles, tapping your hammer on the ground in a menacing fashion.
"Anyone got something to drink?"
"Congrats Milno, Or should i say "St Milno the bastard of steve"."
Smirk and head to the infirmary, get the jaw fixed.
You head to the infirmary where they promptly wire your jaw shut before giving you a pen and note pad to communicate with. Awesome.
"Uhh. This seems like a bad idea. Bottoms up, it guess....
Swallow the piece of tissue.
((I imagine Lukas is pointing finger guns at me.))
You swallow the flesh and then scrape your tongue with your teeth, trying to get the taste out of your mouth. Gahh. You sit on the edge of the bed, kicking your feet back and forth, before getting up and walking around a bit. The pods on your back are heavy, heavier then you expected, like walking with a backpack filled with cinderblocks. You sit back down and hope that one of the mutations the doctor grants to you is a strong back.
Continue showering, ignoring the cheers and question-asking in the barracks. Wash off that fail.
No matter how hard you scrub, it just won't come off.
Jim merely waits for any offers for his wares.
(Also, Jim is doing surprisingly awesome in X-Com. Saying that means I've probably jinxed his ass and he's going to buy it like Ivan soon, but I hope not. ^^^ Also, making him heavy weapons guy means you know my style pretty well. XD Blowing up that bus is exactly what I would have done.)
Jim is a killing machine thanks to the fact that I'm spec'ing him out with a bunch of rockets and grenades and, eventually, a heavy laser. The only problem is that he eats plasma almost every mission; never been too badly hurt, but he's almost always out for a while after every mission he's on. Milno on the other hand is surviving much like he does in ER: rarely shooting, but usually hitting and generally being cautious. Faith is a real powerhouse sniper with her squad sight ability and May is a lot like Jim's raising star apprentice. Mesk and Thomas are both doing quite well for themselves too.
Examine the wires.
The wires look...wire-like...they look like normal, melty wires.
Milno catched the datapad and stared at it...So he was "in charge" for the time being. Not that it mattered too much.
"Yeah, I also want to know some things. So, let's see if Steve has any informations about what happened here..."
Ask Steve. If necessary, write down the question: "Any information on what happened here?"
>Hard to say. Clearly linked to that statue you found, however how that statue got onto us I don't know. Judging by the footage of the TV though, it's not the first time it's done this. Thomas wanders off to the barracks, where he sits down upon a bed, and thinks on why the HRMC members still fight, even with such a slight hope.

You spend the next five minutes playing "Highway to the dangerzone" on your cheeks by repeatedly slapping yourself.
Lars raised his arms triumphantly.
"Do you see, friends? Milno has been chosen! He has been given a personal line of communication to Steve! Truly, he is our protector."
Lars then turned to the large man. "Certainly, sir. I appreciate you lending it to me."
Retun the sledgehammer. Bow reverently to Milno.
You return the hammer and bow deeply to Milno.
