Ask the amory master about a book on amps and read it. If there isn't one, get one about other kinds of weaponry (just something to read, really, while Renen is doing nothing), preferentially about bows.

The "Book" is more of a magazine. A magazine about hunting people. Huh.  You flip through the pages till you find an article about hunting with a bow, specifically with a repeating crossbow. It's more of a anecdote than a manual, but it does have some useful tidbits. Apparently, at least according to the hunter/author, the best place for the first shot is to aim for is the inner thigh.

You practically press the barrel of the plasma Projector against the creature's chest and fire. The ball of plasma tears a horrible, charred hole through the beast's side, leaving a path of bloody charcoal where it passed. The creature gurgles and struggles to stay on its feet.

You pull a collar off your belt and snap it around his neck, the embedded needles extending with a mechanical click. The Worker struggles for a few more seconds before he goes limp.

Mesk in his bed and Ivan, his entire upper body now clad in carapace, his originally mutated arm much larger and his face slowly transforming into some sort of insectoid mask, wander around the ship looking for someone unfamiliar. They find the object of their search standing around in the hall near the research lab. He looks like a scientist, face all hidden behind a research mask and wrapped in a white protection jacket, but he has a large crate at his side and when he sees you, he waves you over.

"Well, without getting overly technical," she grabs your wrist and dumps some data off a datapad onto wristpad. "The first is lighter but stronger then industrial. Problem is that it uses a crystal matrix so it has problems with resonance. Ie, works perfect till you hit it just right and then it shatters like glass. Second is heavier but more protective. Fairly standard stuff."
