Taking down Rhinos?
« on: April 23, 2012, 11:13:22 pm »

I just lost my bad ass to a rhino attack. How do you wrestle one of these down? I can't blade a choke hold with just my hands alone. Then he charged me and crushed my lungs and I died.

It's pretty much impossible to wrestle an animal many times your size without some incredible skill. A rhino is just too big. The best ways to kill large animals like rhinos are spears, pickaxes, and ranged weaponry.

If you're set on wrestling it, grab and break a leg or two.

Never wrestle with animals much bigger than you (especially if you're a dwarf/elf). Your size will keep you from grabbing it and keeping it from moving, as well as strangling it. Instead, get an edged weapon, aim for the legs. Or if you're the hammer type of guy, smash its legs and cave its skull in.

Pickaxe, spear, whip, or axe, those are the deadliest weapons in melee. Get it to fall over (cripple at least 2 legs) and aim for head. If you can make it hurt enough that it gives into pain, free potshots as the head.
Alternately, get a bow and shoot until you hit something vital/crippling, then follow step 3 as above (move in and smash head). No matter your skill, with larger creatures you're guaranteed to hit something when shooting.

You're also guaranteed to glance away if they're alot bigger.

Having one-shotted a polar bear and an elephant with bone arrows and dabbling archery, I beg to differ.

That's where the stones and wamblers come in.

That's what I was thinking. I just took down a camel but I had to go for its legs.

Personally I'm an eye gouger myself. Most things give in rather quickly to the pain of having lost an eye or two, and you only need to get lucky once to gouge out an eye, where to break a leg takes a couple of steps that all have to happen before it breaks.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

The eyes huh? I tried biting those out on stuff like impala and cheetas.

I'll try it on the big stuff, I'm going to go rhino hunting.

Make sure you grab their head with a hand or some other [GRASP] body part when you go to gouge them out though, or your only option will be to "pinch" their eye instead of gouging it.

If you grab a creature with your legs, is there a greater chance of maintaining a hold or will you end up adjusting all the same?

I was wondering if I could grab a large creature by throat with my legs and then stab them.

Obviously your wrestler wasn't badass enough to take on a rhino with only his body.

Pretty damn sure it can be done, though.
