Prequel
The delibarations have ended.
The king has sent us to The Swamp of Roots(MATULKIB).
It is a region infested with wildlife. It is a hot and desolate place. We heard rumors of neighbouring goblins, but at least we have a mountain to retreat in if needed.
Settlers
Our expedition excists of 7 of us.
2 have had military training. They will be set to defending us as quickly as we possibly can.
Furthermore, we have the best brewer we could find. Praise Armok
He will be supplied by quite the proficient farmer. Food and drinks will not be in short supply.
We also have a decent medical dwarf. Never know when we'll use him/her though.
to conclude, we have a self-taught lumberjack/carpenter. Weird guy if you ask me.
As for me, I'm the head of the mining guild. Well, untill I retired from that though.

1st Granite in the year 551.
Upon arriving, we find that the hills are made mostly out of siltstone and silty clay.
If not for anything else, this should prove to be fertile lands. Wood is abundant, as is the water. We have a shallow brook, and several small pools that can keep us supplied with fresh water for the ill.
I immediatly set to work digging out the farm and initial workingspaces. The ground is soft, and this goes at a fast pace.
The others will start in a day or 2, when basic accomodations are in place
The wagon has been deconstructed, and a wide hallway is being dug.
9th of Granite.
The excavation of the farming area is arduous. The water leaking from the ceiling makes it difficult to keep working at a steady pace. Every time a new leak is discovered, we have to investigate it.
at least we can start moving in some of the stuff we brought.
16th of granite.
The farmer can finally begin.
We will not starve nor die from thirst this winter. Praise the bloodgod
The clearing of the dininghall has been planned, and the first workshops are taking shape.
I have ordered a wooden axe to be made, so we can cut the surrounding trees, Then we can provide some better sleeping accomodations.
23rd of Granite
The farmer has started sowing the plump helmets. When summer arrives, cave wheat will join it to provide some change.
3rd of Slate.
The new month has begun and the military dwarfs started some basic stoneworking. Tables, doors, chairs and pots are starting to take shape. Let's hope the migrants provide us with someone better.
Corpes of vermin are starting to pile up. I have ordained them to be taken out of our halls. They are to be thrown on a pile somewhere outside. Maybe one of my successors can find a more suitable way to handle that garbage.
13th of Slate
fatigue is starting to take its toll. My fellowdwarfs are falling asleep where they are.
Zon Konangeshud is even sleeping out in the rain, while she was cutting trees. Beds are in dire need
22nd of Slate
Our first pot of the homebrewn Wine has arrived. If it were not so busy around here, a feast would have been given. However, work is all that waits for us.
10th of Felsite
The days fly by as I'm working away, deeper and deeper into the hill.
I've taken the role of architect, by lack of better.
Food production is coming along nicely, though we will be out of meat soon probably.
Drinks are flowing, and the smell of alcohol is heavy in the air.
I've gotten the idea of a small tomb to commemorate me when I die. I am after all the founder of this outpost.
I've started the mason on chiseling some stone block to create my tomb. It will be there for all to see. A monument that defies the ages.
1st of hematite
Our dormitory is finished. At least now we can sleep decently, if it were not for the snoring...
6th of hematite
Our trade depot is finished. Now for some trading goods for our brethren.
11th of hematite
I've ordered for some rock mugs. While we are hardy, our "sophisticated" relatives prefer to drink from mugs in stead of straight from the barrel.
5th of malachite.
The fortress hasn't changed a lot. Mostly everyone has been busy with going what they were doing. I've ordered for bins to put our tradegoods in.
25th of malachite
Our first migrants have arrived. Sadly only 2 adults have joined us.
They are quickly set to work to replace the soldiers, so they can start honing their skills.
4th Galena
One of the children got into a fight with a wolvering. It looks like a promising soldier.
Already on this you age does it jam skulls through brains. It is quite touching to watch.
20th of galena
The wolverine has died. All the losses for the child are 5 or 6 teeth. It has done
remarkably well.
9th of limestone
My reign is nearing its end. My monument has only just started.
I wonder If I will complete it in time
25Th of limestone
My fellow dwarfs refuse to build my tomb outdoors. My successor will have to provide me
with one in the fort, for I will not have time to dig one for myself.
14th of sandstone
More migrants. 9 adults this time. now the fort will blossom. One of these will surely
become the cook. A post of high prestige. Then a bookkeeper and a broker. My followup
will have nothing to do by the time he arrives. Har Har Har.
24th of sandstone.
While not as grand and rich as I imagined, My tomb has been finished. 2 floors, with a
walkway and a myriad of statues. I could be less pleased.
1st of Timber
I have begun the nesting chamber for the turkeys. Eggs will be plentifull, and breeding
can commence.
12th of Timber
the hillside around the entrance is being flattened. We will have no goblins dropping in
from above.
17th
The traders, The traders have come, What goods do they bring, what news do they tell, what wealth can we provide?
I request Picks and leather, for we have need of nothing else right now
Our broker traded all of our stone mugs for an assortment of food, drinks, 2 new picks,
an Iron anvil, several bins of cloth, several new types of seed, and some other thingamagigs. a good trade if I ever saw one.
23rd of Timber
Blast it, a thief has stolen a warhammer. How can we have missed him. I doubt the merchants hid him from our sights, but who knows, maybe the thief was smarter than we presumed any kobold could be.
7th of moonstone
I have enlarged the food storage. A basic bedroomlayout has been planned, layed out, and is being excavated. The stone freed by this will provide our masons and crafters with more then enough to last a while
11th of obsidian
The end is near. A year of hard work is almost at its end. Food and drink supplies are plentiful, my legacy is assured. A tiny military is created, wood and stone industries are running like clockwork. Cloth is in store for my successor. But he will have to find a way to stop al the thefts. 2 warhammers and a shield, and several siltstone blocks.
24th of obsidian.
I conclude my reign. It is now up to whoever dares to continue to story of Matulki
