Sooo...dumb question time. I don't know as much about video cards as I probably should, so I need some advice. I have an ATI Radeon 6450HD, it came stock with my compy. It works fine, but I don't get super-ultra-flawless speed. I am not a hardcore gamer, by any stretch of the imagination. The most visually demanding of my games is Civ V Gods and Kings, and possibly The Sims 3.

Is it worth the money to go up to the 6770? Should I go all the way up to the 7770?

might as well go for the 7770 as its quality matches the 6850, i got mine for $140 and i love the 1080p man, for sims it would be overkill but Civ5 should be very playable.

Yeah, wired works fine. In fact, I'm typing this post from the little lappy wired to the router.

Yea sounds like the wireless is acting up, try reinstalling drivers and if that dont work it died which is common

Alright, another sad fail on my part.

I had set up this little lappy to connect to my old router's wireless network. When I changed the router, I made the mistake of giving the new wireless network the same name, so now when my new little lappy went to connect to it, it got confused trying to connect to what had the same name as it's 'preferred network' but it wasn't the same.

I deleted it's preference for the old network, and voila, now I can connect just fine.

Hi guys, I need some advice on fixing a monitor. I currently run a laptop with a monitor connected to it for an extended display. Last week, I changed a power plan setting (from High Performance to a custom Gaming Mode), and that's when things went a little screwy with the monitor. It no longer displays anything when connected (ie. black screen), but the system reports that the monitor should be working fine (ie. graphics card can detect the monitor, settings for the external monitor can be changed etc). However the monitor is not working fine, which is an obvious problem. I've tried resetting the power plan settings (nothing happened), I've had a look at the manufacturer's website and support manual (still nothing happened), and I've had a look at Google (apparently nobody has had this problem so I'm kinda stuck here).

Any advice?

Change the power settings back to performance? what graphics card do you have in the laptops?

crap thats old, try reinstalling drivers (do complete uninstall first, no traces of ATI on that computer), also test other monitors and resolutions

Yes it's old lol. I'll try the complete uninstall and reinstall soonish and let you know how it goes. Can't test other monitors (this is the only external monitor I have) but I can test other resolutions first.

EDIT: other resolutions don't work. Also, I can confirm that the screen/display actually works - every time I change the resolution, it goes bright and I can see a display, but this goes off after about a second.

I've done a complete uninstall and reinstall, but we're back to square one. When I change a mode or setting the screen lights up correctly for about a second, and then it goes black again.

Ok definitely need to test that monitor on another device or vice versa.

I'll try.. not many other computers or monitors I can test things out on. Will keep you updated though.

My friend has a crashing problem on his network. Whenever he watches Youtube videos, his computer crashes. I assumed it was just his drivers or Flash, so he updated both. However, the problem continued. He also ran MBAM, but it came across nothing. I considered the possibility of a RAM issue, but he ran Memtest or something and it came up with nothing as well. It also isn't an overheating issue, because he can just turn his computer on for the day and it will crash, while he can play a computer game for hours with no problem. I went over to his house today for a LAN party, and went to watch a Youtube video on my computer. A few minutes into the song, my computer froze for around a minute, then unfroze and froze again a minute later. Sound continued to play, however it was really distorted and slower. Now I think it might just be something with his network, but I can't be entirely certain. He said that he was getting a new router soon, so I might be able to test it then. Has anyone come across a problem like this before?
