If he wants to share files and printer with the computers get a Time Capsule and use that as the network hub for the workplace.

Awesome, I think he's got one of those: http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/

At least I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

Pretty much thats it then, get a wireless printer (for the love of god don't let him get a dell printer) and hook it up to the time capsule, the computers will see it on the network when you install the drivers. If you guys need some remote support you can give my company a call :D

My laptop heats up if I keep it on a desk or table. Fans on the bottom for some godforsaken reason, heatsink usually feels like I could catch fire to paper with it.

Anyway I made a whole new thread before I even knew this topic existed, oops. So I'm going to lock it in a minute and just ask here.

Can anyone give me advice on what would be a good laptop cooler pad / thingy to get. I mean, I don't want a noisy fan (and I noticed some of em have fans all across, the heat is only on the left side with the processors, what?), and if my middle school experience was anything, blowing hot air around the room doesn't really make said air much cooler.

Awesome. Especially if it's plug and play. Or rather, if its whatever the wireless version of plug and play is.

Agreed. We don't make the ink anymore, and Kodak bought the rights to before they filed for bankruptcy. We also don't make the parts anymore, so they're impossible to get. I know that there are some ill feelings toward my brand on this board, but honestly, there are nothing but HP printers in the local Apple Store.

Max the only thing i can agree on with you is HP makes good networking printers, granted ink for those bitches are expensive (unless you fill them up yourself) but i have yet to have any problems getting a hp printer online.

Right now we're competing with Epson to drive ink costs down. I've personally seen retail ink costs drop $5-10 per cartridge over the last 12 months. We have a long way to go (really, the industry does as a whole,) but we're getting there.

Recently got an HP 8600. I will say, the scanning tray that holds up to 50 pages to be scanned, worth it right there. The idea being that the ink/paper savings from easily going mass paperless just work better. What's unfortunate is that people don't have mass available scanning devices, least of all portable ones.

I never really looked into all the web enabled features and so am probably missing out on those at some level.

A friend of mine wants me to fix her laptop. I figured out that the harddrive died. (She threw the laptop at a wall.) So I need to get a copy of Windows 7 and a new hdd. Does it matter if I get an OEM version of windows? This is the hdd I've been looking at.

You can store marketing materials (brochures, business cards, etc) on the MarketSplash app. The scanner is also rated for OCR software use, if you ever have need of that (which may come in real handy in your profession!)

Is it under warranty?  If it's under warranty, they'll ship the drive and the install media.

I'm not sure, but would warranty cover it if it was thrown at a wall? I always thought it was just for failure.

You could always give it a shot. Just don't tell them that it hit a wall. [/sarcasm]

No, but seriously, I hate to say this but...good luck.
