Went to embark in a Sinister biome.  I decided to bury my dead in the basement of my fortress, because I didn't know they'd come back to life.  Next thing I know, one corpse reanimates and slaughters one military dwarf and another military dwarf puts the undead down.  After that, reanimated corpses just kill all my dwarves.

Didn't last a season.
From experience, corpses don't reanimate in Sinister or Haunted, only Terrifying. I recently embarked in a Sinister biome thinking, evil was evil, and had surprising lack of zombies. It didin't even look evil, it just looked like a normal forest. There was, however, no lack of rotyourlungs-gas. I then tried a Haunted biome, again, thinking it didint really make a difference what evil you had, but had the same resaults, however this time i had heartexploding-gas :/.

I've had re-animation in sinister areas. Any of the evil regions can have it, you just have to be lucky (or unlucky) enough to find one that does it. Usually when you have a region that can re-animate you'll find out pretty fast with the local hostiles.

Corpses can reanimate in any evil biome, regardless of whether it is sinister, haunted or terrifying. The only difference between those three is in the natural savagry level of the area, similar to the differences between calm, wilderness, and untamed wilds, or the difference between serene, mirthful, and joyful wilds. All that it does is mean that you can get more dangerous creatures (such as giant ones) to appear and that you can potentially have more wild large predator groups simultanously.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

embark on alligator, lasts 10 secs

This. Except mine was a zombie alligator. And after he killed the first dwarf, it got up and helped and so on. And that was my first DF 2012 fort.

I was thinking more like:

"If you two don't settle down, I'm driving this wagon right into the volcano!"

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

Oh armok.

I assume this is the aliens from Alien(s) [3], not the generic term Xeno, which is simply an alternative to Alien.

Embarked on a tiny strip on the edge of a lake with a bunch of farm animals. The wagon didn't generate, and all the dwarves/animals were spawned on a three tile area, right next to the shore. Animals instatantrum, and EVERYONE dodges into the lake.

JUST NOW:
Embarked on temperate forest. Crazy lag while loading, upon unpause:
A section of the cavern has collapsed!

Apparently, an entire cavern layer was suspended over my head.
