She knew. Great.

Kira sighed and leaned against the wall. "Right. It is Tsuchi. I mean, I can stand the heat of battle, mostly, but not seeing people die in vivid detail. It's like, I'm not cut out for this military duty. And, yeah. I guess I can do with some advice from a friend."

Harpe nodded and looked at Kira, making sure it was clear that this is important.

"Maybe you aren't. Death is a fact of military life. If you can't learn to live with it , perhaps you ought to leave when you get the chance. But you don't seem like that kind of person, so... My advice? Press onwards. Dwelling on the fact will do you no good. Remember instead why you are fighting. What you're fighting for."

She smiled grimly.

"As famous men once said, give me liberty or give me death."

Kira returned the smile, melancholic in a way, but with a hint of hope as she fingered the amulet stowed away in her coat pocket. "You're right. I should...come to terms with myself. Moping on his death won't do him good, now that you say it. We should fight for those alongside us, as well as those behind us in the coming battles. For our honor. For their future.

I get emotional at times. Heh, sorry for that."

Harpe smiled a bit and shook her head, pleased with herself. "Heh, it's fine. I'm half-tempted to get a microphone and have you say that again so I can record it, actually." She chuckled, leaning next to Kira.

"But for now...I think there will be no fighting for your honor until you get some rest." She grinned and pointed back to Kira's room. "Sleep well, okay?" She smiled and yawned gently, feeling rather sleepy herself.

"Yeah, well, thanks for the chat. And for easing the...tension. Good night there, Harpe." Kira replied, returning back to her bed and closing the door, swiftly moving back under the blankets.

She removed the amulet from her pocket and pressed it with both hands to her chest before closing her eyes,. "I'll fight for their honor, and yours, Irdine. In their memory, and yours, wherever you are.

I wonder how heaven looks like..."

((Haspen, I like what you did to the OP, and the ranks ^-^ ))

"Good night, Kira," Harpe said as the girl left, and she herself easily turned away, smiling brightly, and headed into her room, closing the door and slipping into bed.

Harpe:

Just as she laid on the bed, her wall computer began beeping quietly. She had a message, and given the red color of the announcement, it came straight from captain. Or first officer.

Kira:

This time, there was no nightmares. There was no dreams at all.

Harpe:

Code: [Select]
To: Harpe, Novice Pilot
From: Sergei Romanov, First Officer

Due to my recent conversation with Captain, after reviewing your performance, we decided to nominate You as the official squad leader of Scylla's suits. Please report to Captain's ready room immediately.

That was the whole message.

Dylan walked down the hallway a lit cigarette in his mouth as he headed for the Captain's Ready Room as ordered, as he walked he took a deep drag from the thing and exhaled trying to rid himself of the stress and adrenaline that still forced his entire body into tension. The hallways seemed fairly empty as he walked, and the memory of his ally dying continually played itself over and over in his head as he thought, 'Death is to be expected on the battlefield, those who step foot on it must be prepared to die, our lives are forfeit and our orders are absolute when it is to protect the people.' Shaking his head he took another drag from the cigarette, and turned to face the door to the Ready Room. Thumbing the pad he took one last drag from the smoke before putting it out, and placing it in a small silver case on his right hand side.

Go to the Ready Room, and find out why I was called there.

"...Woah. That was fast. After just one battle?"

She happens to notice Dylan at some point or another and shakes her head. 'He doesn't look happy. Probably torn up over Tsuchi, too...'

Report to the Ready Room, looking slightly incredulous.

Harpe&Dylan:

At the Ready Room, there were two people. First Officer who was standing beside a desk, and Captain, sitting at it; she had her head bandaged. After briefly examining the two pilots, she nodded curtly at the chairs in front of the desk.

Dylan gave a small smile, and a nod to Harpe as he took his seat infront of the desk, he instinctively reached for another smoke but quickly catches himself and forces his attention back to those in the room. He turned his attention to the Captain, and spoke up, "Sorry if I'm skipping straight to the point, but why did you call me here Captain?"

Harpe, still looking a tad stunned, quietly sat down in a chair herself. She declined to say anything. After all, the Captain had a head injury. Head injuries could be bad for ones' mood.
She did, however, briefly salute her, for courtesy's sake.

Harpe&Dylan:

"Let me commend you on your performance personally. Albeit we lost one of ours, you were victorious in battle against enemy superior in technology, numbers and resources. This was also introduction to the War - Welcome to Tau Ceti, pilots." The captain leaned in her chair, and nodded curtly.

"You two have performed splendidly. We had hard time whom to chose officially to become the squad leader - the one responsible for tactics, survival and well-being of the group. You must stand together on the battlefield. A small group directed by dedicated leader is better than a disorganized army. We have choosen you, Harpe, to lead Scylla's suits, the 93rd PCASS Squad of Terran Alliance." With that, the First Officer stood up and presented a small, polymer-metallic, dark blue badge. After circling the desk, he pressed it against Harpe's chest, and said badge clung to the fabric of her uniform.

"Congratulations, Squad Leader Harpe. As of you, Dylan - you're next in the chain of command. Whilst the Fleet has no official rank for you, in case of Harpe's inability to command, or death on the field, you shall take the lead. Now, you should rest. We have decided that Odysseus will proceed with it's mission, whilst Scylla shall venture deeper into asteroid field to flush out any enemies and destroy an outpost that's certainly hiding there. That is all from us." The First Officer sat down.

"Anything you want to say?" Captain added after a while, looking a bit pale now.
