How to defeat Hill Titan?
« on: April 23, 2012, 05:59:02 am »

In my current adventure game I'm playing as human adventurer. My hero is powerful enough, having almost all fighting skills at legendary level or near.
And I have faced strange Hill Titan...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I know that webs are very powerful, so I started attacking him with bow, and sneaking of course...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I've tried all weapons my hero has with it but all of them, except bow and whip, are useless - every attack "glances away".
Arrows and whip are doing better, at least fracturing or chipping body parts.
As result Hill Titan is lying on the ground, with all body parts broken...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
but still alive.
There is no bleeding or pain so he will not die without my help. Continuing lashing him with whip is useless, because this do not result in new injures, picture stays same.
How to kill him?

Glowing crimson? Well, never heard of that before, but I'll assume inorganic. Decapitation.

Hitting really big things with hammers =/= won't kill them

It will EVENTUALLY kill him if he needs a thought center for movement, by way of caving the skull in, even if the blow was originally just bruising him. Don't really know how it works, but it happens. Especially to you if you pass out fighting a horse tail hair.

That eventuality may be very, very long. Like assuming every strike hits, you will get overexerted 5 times over long.

If you have the luxury of going and coming back easily, you could try getting one of the other lightsaber weapons. They are scourge, (especially boning) knife, and morningstar (reference). I've confirmed even the AI can kill bronze colossi with a steel morningstar in arena mode.

You can also try meleeing him with arrows, which has a very small contact area. Theoretically blowdarts have the smallest contact area of any weapon but I have never seen anyone put them to use.

It is said knowledge is like a foul-smelling herb. It must be cooked well and thoroughly with experience to make it palatable. A young scholar's knowledge is therefore not only worthless but disgusting. -- In Dwarf Fortress you have another paradigm. Gather as much of that smelly herb as you can and toss it at your enemy, fracturing his skull through the +capybara man leather cap+.

This site is located in savage area (several days travel to nearest city). I think I will leave him, and maybe came back with scourge/morningstar when I'll be in this region again.

Get an edged weapon (axe, sword) of equal or greater strength than 'Glowing Crimson', and chop chop chop chop its head.

Two different methods I would recommend:
IF you want to kill it yourself (for bragging rights, Legends fame, etc.)
Yeahhh pretty much the only thing you can do is keep beating on it. I once fought a Titan composed entirely out of amber with no nervous center... you can smash the skulls of those things as much as you want and they will happily continue attempting to push you through your +steel helm+. In my case I had Superhuman Strength and eventually slashed it with a steel great axe so hard it's lower body flew off in an arc. That did it in. When fighting inorganic Titans though you really just need to put in the time. I actually smile when I see Titans that bleed these days.

IF you just want it dead (for renown/a quest)
The most effective method for killing inorganics I've found is a zombie swarm. Depending on how long worldgen is their shrines should be simply littered with dead dwarves and elves and men. Since we now have necromancers, I just raise all the corpses and let them bludgeon the Titan to dead. They suck at fighting, but when you raise 400+ peasants eventually one gets a ridiculously unlikely shot and punches off the upper body of the beastie. YAY FOR BEING A NECROMANCER!

You can't strangle things to death unless they're made of flesh.

Not to mention that a titan is way, way bigger than you, barring mods and such.

Wait, the first picture and the wounds description picture show a different named titan, with different descriptions. That had me wondering "Hahaha guys it doesn't even say glowing crimson in the description" but it turns out it actually does, and that the first one is wrong.

Yeah, those are different beasts, one's an eyeless pterosaur and the other is a horse.

Sorry, my mistake. It was another titan I was figting earlier.
