I now have a Giant Bat.
« on: April 22, 2012, 05:09:34 pm »

What do I do with it? I read tamed creatures can't fly.

And hello you crazy forum people. First thread.

Tamed creatures fly. They might not fly to places that you need to fly to get to, and there likely aren't many places to fly in an average fort, but they can. Try to get a breeding pair before doing anything neat.

I've not seen a single tame creature fly. Even when met with the fatal consequences of gravity. On the other hand, an eagle that went feral in my fort has been flying in my grand hall for a year now, he just keeps going. Fly on eagle, fly on.

I suddenly have a breeding pair of camels. Summon the animal trainers!

Suddenly I regret putting out cage traps. What good is a breeding pair of gray langurs?

I have had tame vultures, buzzards, giant cave swallows and bats, etc, fly when needed and occasionally when not. Whispers, what kinds of fliers did you try to get to fly and how?

Okay, unrelated, but why does my staircase spawn magma? It's next to a pool. Or I could just blame the structure of clown stone. Hey if the blue stuff is called candy what do we call the grey stuff?

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

I can support this, I currently have some 20 domesticated ravens floating around my fortress at will.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Train them and find out. If nothing else you can use them as a food source.

I do believe the confusion here is being caused by the fact that creature trained to be war/hunting animals lose their ability to fly, when unassigned tame creatures do not.

I made a mod where giant spiders, snake-people, minotaurs, dwarves, and a gnome-like creature were all the same species.  In spite of being radically different sizes, a snake-person and a spider could get married and have a minotaur as a child.
A wonderful love story of a family that is truly without prejudice.

I always called it the circus tent, because it makes up the circus. Unless you're talking about
