Suggestion about arena testing
« on: April 22, 2012, 04:54:17 am »

Perhaps (not sure if this is already being done/will be done in the future) the testing arena could be used for creating dungeon crawls and such, like people do now in fortress mode, but quicker? I'm sure somebody will know what I'm talking about...like starting out with a flat plain and then you use d>d to mine out an area, and you create...well, whatever the player wishes. Basically an easier, more convenient way of making adventurer dungeon crawls, or something. Only disadvantage I see in it is that you probably wouldn't be able to take your characters from adventure mode through it. What do the forums think of my poorly-worded idea that is probably already scheduled?

YEAH!

Maybe your adventurer, current and/or previous, can be imported into the map so you can see how they can stand up to the horrors that lie in wait.

Personally, I like it because after climbing the damned learning cliff, I'm too elitist to consider not liking it.
If murdering parents in front of their kids in the most gruesome manner possible is too much for you, you have not played Dwarf Fortress
You should be drowning babies by now, human.

So, basically, an in-game custom dungeon maker?

Ich bewillige.

It'd be a tiny bit like Minecraft Creative mode, no? One of the things that disappointed me about the arena was that you could only place water, lava, and creatures. How hard could it be to add walls and digging-outs?

I assume it was about cod tendies and an austerity-caused crunch in the supply of good boy points.

Precisely. Also picking statues, engraving the walls, stuff like that.

lava plus water = obsidian, so you can place walls.

True, but less tedious. Example: Build a wall? Buildings>Constructions>Wall, and then Enter, make a rectangle, Enter. Not this one-block-at-a-time crap. No offense intended, of course.

If you create unsupported rock blocks in in the arena, but not in the highest z level, they will crash through the floor below, creating a hole.  Also I've had flaming graphite generated during my experiments.

For some reason lava+water in the arena =/= obsidian.  I think that the magma sea in the game is filled by the mineral with the lava tag, but the arena just gives you hardcoded liquid rock.  Has anyone tried generating a world with more than one mineral with the lava tag, and then dig to the magma sea?
