What's the problem with level 1 vs zombies? I don't think you guys have really played level 1 characters- I mean, level 1 can take on zombies fine. Then again, that is experience w/ barbarian/fighter...

Level one characters are also less fun in the way of options available to them ...

Especially mages. Shoot off a couple spells, can't do anything else all day long xD

For the most part, level 1s wouldn't have that much trouble. But given how squishy spellcasters are at that level, as well as the number of zombies to be fought, level 5 seems appropriate.

Yeah, encumbrance is a factor. Can't have you wizardly types lugging a pet skelephant around to fight the dragon for you!
