Arph, the most powerful things in D&D are the non-official creatures in the Immortal's Handbook and all of the Overdeity-level entities, such as Lord Ao, Her Serenity, the Overlord of Hell, the Serpent, the Supreme Virtue, the Old God, the Forgotten One, the Allfather and the Three-faced Sun Heresy.

Edit: I forgot Ravenloft's Dark Powers.

o_O? Only my Maptools usage is restricted. So if we play with IRC, I probably can attend.
I'm not really sure what your situation is, so I just assumed that you're posting by phone or iPod. I guess I never really thought of purely text DnD as viable.

This arena game really has the possibility to attract powergamers >.> :P
Yeah, but whoever is DMing can throw them into arenas that don't cater to their powergaming.

It would be nice if you made a Play-BY-Post subdivision for people like me >.>
Sure, why not? Although I would think the DM of the session would make the thread.

Ah, my bad. I'm pretty limited in my knowledge of DnD gods and setting information.

Huh, then this really isn't exactly a game sign-up thread per se, and just a hub of ideas? o_o

Hmm..

As for purely text D&D - look at the Giantitp forum's Play by Post threads. They are thriving.

I guess I could DM a PbP division...

No, this is the signup thread. If people want to DM a session, they'd post here and say when they're doing it and whatnot.

I think I'd prefer playing in lower level (3-10) games.  3.5e gets extremely wonky at very low (cats killing level 1 commoners, etc.) and very high (wizard uses legend lore to figure out how to win, wishes for macguffin, etc.) levels.  Especially if it's going to be heavy combat, which is implied by "arena"

@Cthulhu - I think that the sweet spot of D&D for most people is between fifth and 12th or so levels (before Limited Wish).

Anyhow, is anyone here interested in an Arena game, Play By Post version? xD

I think I'm setting the level as 11th level.

Except they get a +4 LA, so you can't create a creature that is a lich at the start of the game.

I was planning on having the starting level for the first session be 5, and then after that all the sessions would have level ranges (as in, the DM would say what levels are allowed in their session).

Speaking of the first session, it'll be (like I said before) starting at level 5; all core stuff and anything you run by me and I'm okay with will be allowed. Psionics are allowed, as well. Is everyone fine with having it be play-by-post? I'll either draw an image or have a little ASCII-esque visual that will show the character's positions and the arena map.

EDIT: D'oh, ninja'd by Skyrunner.

I'd be up for Skyrunner's campaign.

And you can totally start as a lich in a level 11 campaign - you just need to be a 7th level character with caster level bonuses from one of the umpteen things that give that.

You are free to veto it going by rule 0, or forbid lichdom altogether, but it'd be perfectly legal in that it'd start as a 11st level caster, then undergo the ritual; while its EL would increase to 15, it did start out at 11  ;)

Edit: Grek, there are, indeed, several ways of accomplishing that, but there is also the phylacteracy's cost to account for.

Well, it's not exactly a campaign, just an arena fight ^^;

I did not say you couldn't do that. However, you have to undergo the ritual, in the arena, while an angry monster is breathing down your neck. Riiiiiiiiiiight.

Then again, he may be able to do the ritual afterwards. I don't know what's necessary for it, but he might have problems with acquiring stuff.

Well, it is possible to have a small piece of paper as your phylacteracy... It just so happens very much so more fragile than a well warded gem.

Lichdom is a terrible idea anyways, you shouldn't actually do it.

For the Arena game, what's the basic premise? Is it a fighting tournament?
