And it is amusing how most of us treat newbies, considering what evil we routinely inflict to the goblins and elves.

And some of us even to our own dwarves...
Oi, I don't inflict evil upon anyone. Only preemptive justice.

Anyway, yes. Huzzah for us not sucking.

Yeah, many people merely insult newbies or begrudge them for their posts, as opposed to trying to find ways to accidentally kill them for the commercial purposes their bones can be put to use for.

That's just the other communities being to silly to realize the value of *newbie bone rings*. :P
Also yeah, totally agreed. Definitely one of the friendliest communities out there. c:

We have plenty of asshats here.  I mean, just the other day, I picked Shook up and sat'em on my head.
Consequently, I had kind of a shitty day.

Other communities are so wasteful. We use every part of the newbie!

Fun fact: not only does dwarf fortress have a tvtropes page, the dwarf fortress community does too!

I'm seeing these circlejerk threads more often lately. Not sure what that means, if anything.

It just means new people feel entitled to spout off that they're better than x community. It's the cool thing to do on any forum.

One of the few things I dislike about this community is how much it loves to praise itself. It does not become it.

Yeah the DF forums might be decent in some ways but that's a far cry from being worth a thread a week saying " WE ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN THOSE JERKS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER "

Edit:  Think about how good the forum would have to be to deserve these weekly threads and try to make it a reality.  It's up to you!

The harder a game is to play, the more hardcore the players are. Hence, anyone with enough patience interest lack of sanity to actually try the game is instantly respected by the its members.  :D

Hello!

As a person who started a thread with a negative overtone on this issue, I want to express my support for Loud Whispers who quite clearly described it: the community is mainly what we - each one of us - create, so if we want this to be a fun place, we need to act accordingly.

Personally, I don't dislike moral boosting threads. Besides raising awareness about how good the community is working, I see them as also a reminder to try to stay this way.

Yours,
Deathworks

P.S.: Olith McHuman: Thank you for that link. I didn't know about that and it was fun to read.

I am disgusted at this thread. It's a blatant slap in the face to those without the ability to feel or express emotion, not only those on various stages of the "autism scale", but also to any Alien Anthropological AIs posing as members of the community to gather evidence for their Doctoral Theses.  :). The reason I love this community so much is that it gives me a place to write sentences like the one above*. But, to placate those who are thinking "Grr, not another fucking post in this damn circle jerk thread! I already told him we've had a million of these!", I offer up the following sacrifice, a young quote born only yesterday, taken against its will from the clutches of the "When kickstarter goes wrong?" thread:

It certainly speaks well of kickstarter that we can make a thread about guffawing at one of the biggest idiots on the internet and still repeatedly "derail" into positive things.

I think it speaks well of the community as well.

*I've tried simply using them in everyday speech, but people kept asking to buy drugs from me.

or maybe Valve goes out of business because they invested too heavily in something which then fails - like, say, human civilization.
