How do I find my world gen emeration parameters?
« on: April 21, 2012, 09:19:38 am »

I just generated a pretty nice embark site, but unfortunately I placed my 4x4 embark just a tad off -- Could some one tell me how I would go about regenerating the world? I guess what I am asking is what are the menu commands to extract the generation seed.

Also, how do I refind the embark spot once the world is recreated? Is there a way to tell where a current embark is located on the world map?

Thanks for the help in advance. If I can figure this out I can post a nice world with a 25ish z level waterfall, and a pretty good amount of all required minerals for a nice fortress.. The only bad things I have found about this embark are kea (annoying buggers) and magma is about 100 layers down.

The generation seed should be right there in world_gen_param.txt, which you (hopefully) exported when you created the world. You can also, I believe, export this using legends mode. You can just hunt around the the embark using the world map as a reference. It shouldn't be too difficult. Finally, I should note that it is very difficult to 'tweak' small details in worldgen. Seed-based generation means you can't just change a few numbers in the seed and expect it to be even vaguelly similar. You also can't mess around with the raws and expect it to generate the same. There are a few exceptions to this, though.

Finding the location on the world map can be done by abandoning and then reclaiming when starting a new fortress mode game.
