Hmm.... I really really like that idea. I'm gonna do it. Caster could even conceivably use it on their own spells to tweak results, or switch to a more appropriate spirit (for example, spirits in the top row don't get more difficult to control over time)

And Redking, what you describe sounds similar to what I do for 'at-will' spells, but they are remarkably difficult to cast. However, the player /can/ build their own spells and inscribe them into their spell book, and something like that might be a good way to handle it.

It would probably be required for any long term spell actually. After all the longer a spirit is here the more complex it gets and the harder it is to control. This spell would allow you to swap the complex spirit for a more simple one. Each swap should probably add to the difficulty of further swaps to a point though unless the spell is meant for constant swapping.
