Okay, I'm just about fully loaded. Stary Sobor is a great place to go to for loot (although half of the good loot I have came from the bodies of dead 'survivors').

I've got an ALICE pack, 4 food items, 3 drink items, 4 bandages, a Makarov + ammo, 4 blood packs, a heat pack, 2 or 3 painkillers, 3 morphine injectors, road flares, an epi-pen, a watch, a map, a compass, a hatchet, matches, a hunting knife, a camping tent, and an M4A1 CCO with plenty of ammo.

Any ideas on where to go now? I though about heading down south again from Stary Sobor.

If I knew where Stary Sobor was, and what server you're on, I'd come join you.

Stary sobor has a nice military base that almost always has great shit. Nothing as good as the NW airfield though.

Bloody hell this game is more terrifying than Amnesia if you get into the wrong situation. I think it's the stakes for dying and the complete lack of handholding or player assists. Got caught in a three way firefight last night in some construction site. I tried to lure someone in with a flare, and within 5 mins there were people all over the place. Glorious.

Also found my first shotgun today. Got to fire it once before I was murdered and someone took it. I hope he chokes on it. :(

This is the sort of thing I want to see more out of games: persistance, consequence of actions, player agency and player driven narrative.

Could anyone tell me how to talk to people in this game, text wise? I tried pressing "/" and it didn't seem to work?

It's awfully hard to trick befriend people without being able to talk. :(

Edit: nevermind, had to google it after I died :( Sorry for the doublepost was in dire need.

Hey, does anyone want to try to repair a vehicle with me? I mean, if you die you can always find weapons and good loot again. But repairing a vehicle and getting to mess around with it... that is a special experience.

From what I read on the wiki, Zelenogorsk has a few possible vehicle spawns close by (2 at Green Mountain, and 1 or 2 in the supermarket parking lot I think) so that's the area I will be operating in. What do you think the likelihood is that someone will discover my tent if it's pitched in the forest to the northwest of Myshkino? Both locations are on the western edge of the game-world. Map for reference: http://media.taterunino.net/Chernarus.jpg

EDIT: I've got a tent up in the woods (down south from where I initially planned) so Chicago 28 is my new official home server. I just hope that the contents won't be erased due to bugs. Oh well. I've also heard that vehicles might be bugged/ not spawning on this server or on this version of Day Z entirely... we'll see.

Get an army of Zeds behind you, and you can apply nightmare retardant to the situation by having the Benny Hill theme (Yakkity Sax) run through your head while running from them and applying all sorts of evasion techniques. Happens all the time when I play and am out of ammo.

I am really digging into this but haven't got ARMA2 yet so I have a couple of questions.

Is the progress a character make tied to the character itself or to the server the character is playing? So if I played in Server A, and then logged into Server B on the next day, would the progress be carried over?

After you die, is there anything you carry forward from your previous life? Not that I mind about perma-death, just curious.

Silly question but are they planning to release this for ARMA3 when it comes out?

1) Only the character at the moment. It's a point of contention for some players, as you can server hop to get resources.

2) Dying is permanent, and you start with the same newb package every time you respawn.

3) No clue, but it's a well established rumor that the developer of the plugin is also an ArmA 2 dev, so it is possible.

I don't have it at hand, but I saw a post on the DayZ forums from the dev explicitly stating he intends to develop the mod for ArmA 3.  Considering its popularity, he'd be mad not to.

Rocket's (DayZ creator) job description at Bohemia Interactive is "game designer, ArmA 3 multiplayer". He's only been working there for half a year though, but I suspect he's been getting a few pats on the back recently.

Ah, awesome then. So should I wait for ARMA3 or just buy ARMA2 the next time it gets 50% discount? When will that happen anyway? I am in Australia so I am not familiar with the timing of huge discounts in the US. Hoping that will happen on Steam on Father's Day or Independence Day.

Steam seems to go with a Summer sale of some sort around June or July, I think.
