Maybe we could produce a whole bunch of dragonantflys and have them scout out around the area? Get a better picture of where we are - in a town, a rural area, etc? Find out how many humans there are, and if there is just one, ambush it in sleep and consume it. The biomass and opposable thumbs would be astounding.

Can't mosquitoes also inject stuff?

Scan for 'poison' DNA, then give it to the mosquitoes to inject.

Maybe we could assimilate a mole or gopher and dig a giant pit under the house!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You spend some time looking through the gathered Dna fragments, but find nothing of use (You should really stop rolling 1's). So you decided to take things in your own hands.
And start to develop some Ant mosquito's. Mutation of the planttick mouth goes well, and the rest of the development goes fluently though. Sadly due to their small size they will have to stay toghether, as they tend to get lost and die on their own. They are simply to small to support even a small intelligence on your own.

You contemplate growing legs for a while, but decide against it for the moment. After all, you would be  rather visible, and even if you were to go unnoticed the transformation wouldn't be complete before the eggs had hatched. The antfish and carp hunt, and manage to bring in a rather large amount of food.

Yes, that's what's causes the itching after a bite.

I think our current form is obsolete, let's use that pile of biomass to mutate to something entirely new.

I think we should

1)send 500 Ant mosquito's to gather mammal's DNA (high loses are tolerable)
2) send 500 Vegetarian mosquito to gather biomass and plant DNAs, preferably poisons (High loses are tolerable)
3) Antfishs and insecticarps - hunt for more biomass

Next turn we'll change our form to something entirely new, while our army will guard the cocoon.

BTW, does another insecticarp have reproduction system?

Sounds good, maybe resize those mosquitoes first.

When do we get new abilities?

Whenever I decide you get them. You might get one soon.

So I guess especially after some sort of achievement? Might have to go after the human after all...

The insecticarps are functionally identical

Well now:

Zerg rush mosquitoes, replicate some smaller fishes. For this purpose, disintegrate some of the antfish. The others keep eating anything that's alive. Scan for DNA that's related to poison, muscles (of the mammal variety) and digestive tracts.

No to replicating small fishes. It's a waste of biomass

But the human will feed us on a regular basis!

(Until we feed on him, that is.)

Actually, you might be right: After killing the human, we can simply find the stored fish food and eat that.
Could we maybe become a land-dwaller, enter the house and start eating the stored foods?

(And what do we need antfishes for after leaving the pond?)
