Eat all of the spiders you can find in the pool, as well as any other insects near the surface. The spiders will give us the DNA necessary to form fangs, which we can make out of ant chitin. The spider DNA will also enable us to inject digestive juices into our prey, which should be more effective than the ant acid gland, albeit more expensive.

We don't really want to spend too much time in the pond, since the humans will probably realize something is up as everything that they can see dies or turns into a weird combination of animals.

Let's task an antfish group on just finding out what's left in the pond if we don't already know.

How large is our combined biomass now?

Suprise update
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You scrounge the pool, accompagnied by all of your little and not so little friends. In the end you manage to catch quite a lot of insects, and the pool is becoming rather silent. Seems like you have almost eaten each and every living thing. Nevertheless you manage to find quite some usefull things.  The most important is that you know posses the entire genome of spiders. There's quite a lot of unscanned Dna left though, so you might be able to find something else, if you knew what you were looking for.

Having survived another night, dawn is coming again. As your memory serves you well, the human will soon come to feed the fishes. You also realize that one meter carps aren't exactly stealthy, though they might go unnoticed.

Food stockpile:
1800 biomass

Name:  Deoxys
Biomass: 10 000
Energy: 4075/10.000
Nutrients: 5000/5.000
Abilities: DNA assimilation, splitting, Improved DNA modification (Can change size of parts, can modify DNA into similair parts, can randomly mutate DNA at will)
Current look:  Insecticarp (1 m long, 10 high, 10 broad)
Status: Healed
Spoiler: Current form (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Clone army (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Dna library (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Complete DNa (click to show/hide)

Clones chematics for GM reference: (Doubt I'll need them)

Yay!

What do you guys think about leaving the pond and hunting for a small mammal to eat?  Maybe we can use spider silk to suffocate a sleeping organism before eating it, allowing us to go for a lot of biomass at once and getting some mammalian dna.  Looking like a dog or cat would let us move around without being quite so conspicuous.

I say cats, Stray cats are pretty much every where and they can disappear for long times with out any one noticing.

I agree.  I wasn't going to go into it, but that won't stop me now.  When people see a cat wandering around outside, it's an outside cat.  When people see a dog outside, it's a stray.  The unfortunate bit is that we need to find a cat and eat it before we can imitate one.

Not that that'll be any trouble what with being a 1m long insecticarp thst has a swarm of acid-biting antfish that could be modified to go on land.

As soon as you get a plan for modifying into a land based creature, sure, though note that for now the only thing you can do is flop around.

Then until someone improves on this, here is plan:

Get rid of all purely water-based adaptations and grow big leg(insect) using modify DNA, and modify the antfishes as well, i.e get rid of gills, fins, and add legs and wings. Do this with insecticarp as well, so remove fins, swim blader, gills...etc. Obviously move onto land (into hiding preferably) while we do so. Or plan B, turn into a swarm of cell blobs and regroup somewhere outside of the pond, then modify.

I would say stay in the pond for now. Repopulate it with photosynthesizing plants and leave them here long term as a fortified "base" if you will that basically does nothing but sit here and generate energy. Also, since the human seems to like feeding the fish, make some fish for him to feed.

Hoard energy and biomass for a few days, then form scout organisms to hunt elsewhere.

This could work, like having an expanding network of bases, eventually being connected via an interlocking bioconnection thing, a la creep from Starcraft. But I'm thinking too far into the future. Change my plan from the first two to this one, with a modified version of the antfish, or possibly catbeasts to scout.
