Well well WELL!!!

Wowzers that was exciting!

I was being, perhaps, a bit careless when I dug down through the bright blue candy-like floor and suddenly ruptured through into an eerie cavern.  Suddenly I got the announcement that the circus had come to town and a huge crowd of clowns of all shapes, sizes, and colors boiled out of a small, but very heavy rock car.  I didn't have bridges over pits or anything to stop them...my five miners ran for their lives and I picked a spot just below my magma industry area to build a gabbro wall atop the "downward staircase" to seal my new friends away.  It was a race against time...my main fort area is at z=138 and the magma worx are down at 97.  My last three were literally sprinting for all their bearded lives across a small area when the first two fo the three blocks went in.  A mason showed up to seal the last wall piece just as my last miner/hammerer/military member came shuffling to the staircase.  I suspended the wall build, unpaused for a second, then reactivated the job.

The hammerer hauled it past and a mason showed up to seal the lower levels JUST two second before the first white friend hove into view. 

So far, the clowns keep flying up, looking at the door, then going away dejected.

Oh..we didn't get away scot free...a cat died.

It was my first time playing. I didn't want much spoiled so I didn't look too much at the wiki. Oh look, adamantine! I bet this is good! Five seconds later, "you spot an eerie cavern...". *looks at wiki real quick*. *entire life ruined even faster*

Ive never done it myself, even though I played for years. My friend did few games where I helped him and we reached clowns though. I just think its boring tbh, why fight a force you know you cant win over. Much rather collect stuff until massive goblin attack or some awesome titan arrive and destroy everything.

It is possible to defeat the initial rush, even with cold steel. Just really hard.

Or you can invite them over for a nice match of checkers.

They're all milling in the area I'd set aside for a 'deep dining room' for the miners just below the wall of gabbro.  There's about 20 of them...several green ones that frequently puff big clouds of vapor.  I have a feeling that dwarves won't be able to survive direct exposure...I may have to contrive a big siege weapon shooting gallery to clear them out.  The important thing is...they're confined to their big tent until I'm ready to deal with them >

And here I'd given in to the whole "sacrificial miner, no other choice" mentality on here. :p

It is never impossible--it is plain easy with cave-in and obsidian (if a few years planning and executing a complex design probably at the cost of a dozen dwarf lives counts as easy), and can definitely be done with a solid, legendary militia armed with good weapons and backed by a properly placed marksdwarf force (they are especially good at dealing with the bane of most anti-clown forces--exploding fire clowns and deadly dusters)
