Why do cats always pick the same dwarf to attach to?

I have one poor fisherdwarf who has 65 cats attached to his mind. 5 recently died of old age, causing him to tantrum.  Thankfully the fortress is well spread out, and has all sorts of mind healing ameities, so his repeated tantruming has not degenerated into berzerk rage or madness. He seems to be doing better now, at "fine".  He is attending a meeting over assaulting another dwarf.

Why do cats always pick one victim? Its like "oh, that dwarf is super vulnerable to kittycat mind control! Clog the hallways! Pen him in! HIS MIND IS OURS!"

I am contemplating atom smashing their feline asses.

I have no idea.  If only there was A LOOFAH that you could use to scrub the cats away.

I can't afford a tantrm spiral! I need my dwarves to make fat healthy dwarven babies, not become the parasitical vector for kittycat mind control induced insanity!

I heard atom smashing kills them without inducing bad thoughts... is it worth a try?

Yes it is. pack all the cats in cages under your chosen atomsmasher, pen up the owners in a room filled with militarydwarves in case they become miserable and go on a berserker rage.

Pull lever. If the owners suddenly become miserable, keep them in the room until they start tantruming. If they go into melachony, just leave them be unless they go near the only safe water pond.

Seems pet cats can't be assigned to cages.

I will have to pasture them under the smasher instead....... lts see what happens.

You're better off atomsmashing any dwarves which like cats, honestly.

Can't afford to. Only have 24 dwarves, and won't get more except though makin whoopie.

I will eliminate the feline menace instead.

But think of all of the delicious cat meals that could be made if you instead end the life of a single dwarf! Prepared cat heart, cat tallow roasts... mouth-watering good.

Just a question. How'd you get 65 cats in the first place? Catsplosion?

Atom smashing only partially successful.

About 8 critters were reported smashed. 40 are now properly missing.

Just butcher all female kittens born and within about 10 years or so they will all die of old age.

I have been butching kittens continuously, and could not outpace the catsplosion. Normally my population is bigger, and I can man more butcher shops.
