I get the materials for my megaprojects, but I usually try to build them in terrifying biomes and I ALWAYS get the zombie giant trips and zombie giant mosquito swarms >:/

I have always intended to construct an enormous aboveground castle and keep, but never actually get around to doing it. I also wanted to make an enormous suspension bridge, but that project died halfway through from boredom.

I always plan on designing the fort carefully so that I can flood any room with magma without flooding any others. I never get around to it.

In DF, I just want to build a decent fortress.

In real life? Eat ALL OF THE ANIMALS.

Recently I came across the reconstructed original schematics of the 6502 CPU.  It occurred to me that it wasn't all that complicated, and could with some effort be recreated in dwarf water and gear logic.  I got as far as working out designs for memory cells and address decoders and designing a really nifty full adder circuit before losing interest in the project.  Still have my design notes on paper.  Might build it someday if I have nothing better to do for a few months.

That's the Atari 2600 cpu right?!  Please tell me you also have a schematic for how to make a "Joust" cartridge out of pig tail socks?

Automated child and migrant murdering machine.  It's a lot of work to murder them all by hand.

Cast obsidian monolith extending from just above the magma sea to the highest z-level I can cast at. With it being large enough to house my entire fort in and being completely smoothed. Those damn cavern lakes though...

Turn cavern water to 0% 0% in the world file =) or something like 15% 20% (which gave me plants but no water in any caverns in the majority of embarks)

Anyway I stated this in several different threads. But I want my city entirely of brass, bronze, and gold. With lava-ways, above ground palace. All the military lives in the city and is not walled off so they just slaughter any sieges that walk on map. A small palace, keep. And a terrarium domed, glass, with the zoo residing in it for all of time (such that they do not re-spawn) for anyone in the world to go visit and look at =)

I had an above ground garden built in the grounds of my castle and two young dwarves spent time socialising there over the summer and at the end of the summer they were in love. Remember those long summers of your childhood? That first kiss in the gardens while crossbows dwarves shoot goblins above your head? The rain of dead birds as the hunters get to work? Truly Spearhills is a paradise.

I want Page 6 memory so I can write a printer routine to print out a list of the Dwarves.   ;D

My White Whale is a fortress with clan structures that make sense, and go on for generations.  It would help if I actually played one past when the first generation of children mature, but my first problem has been organizing them both genealogically and socially.

Does anybody by any chance make obsidian by mixing it with bloody water?

Edit: Iram of the Tall Pillars. Think a modern metropolis with skyscrapers carved out of a mountain.

Ya, someone on here keeps posting pictures of it ;) crazy awesome blood altar, water carries it to magma, has a viewing area and everything :p pretty cool.

Hello!

Might build it someday if I have nothing better to do for a few months.

...
Mmmmhhh, 6502 is the CPU used in 1541 type disk drives and the 6510 is a variant of the 6502 used as the CPU of the C=64... this does have potential... :)

Anyhow, my white whale is "simply" writing a story to share with the community. The problem is that I want to have all detailed information on the situations so that I can write a detailed story that makes sense. This means I need to take notes - lots and lots of notes - and in the process, either a new update comes around or something in RL eats my free time until a new update comes around (T_T)

Right now, I am about to start a new attempt, having genned a nice year-234-Age-of-Legends-world which also has a dwarven civ with a lot of nice deities while the other cultures also have interesting variants. I have taken notes on all the gods in the (unrevealed) legends mode and my next action should be studying the spread of the civilizations on the world map so that I can mention the correct civs when embarking...

I am pretty sure that the minecart update will be released before I have dug out the first food storage room, but I will try anyway (^_^;;

Yours,
Deathworks

For now, my goal is simply to build a somewhat safe and stable fort of ~200 dorfs.

I've gone through a lot of iterations so far... The defence designs are, I believe, pretty much finished, but there are still issues with the building order and logistics department, like a mystery food industry strike leading to tantrum spirals after the fort hits 100 dorfs or so.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

For me it's to kill a moose with only Human outsider gear, as soon as possible after start. I lose if I get killed, obviously, and I lose if I talk with other humans.

Really difficult, but I've done it a couple times and it's always interesting.

Yes, I have come to hate those things with a passion! I'm trying to build the Parthenon and last I heard, the building wasn't supposed to be flooded even after it was finished, much less during construction. Drain the lake, build walls, oh, here's a couple more dorfs drowning... auhgh! At least it's not an aquifer.

I made plans for a giant, 26 story+ tall phallus. With the ability to pee magma. I'm thinking of putting it right above the trade depot... pansy elves.
