Tricky, tricky, especially since my first thought was something to do with Plotted Missions, but the MWaP uniques have that covered already.

While I'm here, I can't quite remember from last time- what general types of techs come from the offensive/defense/support branches?  I'm thinking specifically physics, but in general is good.

Generally your offensive techs will give you weapons, splashy effects. Things that attack the world or each other. (Laser Rifles, The Giant Laser, mutant abominations.)
Your defense techs will get your minions out of tight spots, will defend your base. (Energy Shields, Phase Shift Devices.)
Your support techs will fill in other roles for technology. Unlock new base location types. So on. (The Tunneler!)

Alright then. I am just curious, what happens if I request a trait that overlaps with one of the unique traits? (I notice that most things I want are already covered by them)

Overlapping one of the Unique traits can occur, but it'll be a much weaker ability.

If we don't have any gasses researched, what options do we have for gas traps?  I'm guessing knockout gas is a pretty obvious one.

Henchmen do crop up from time to time. It's a little early for them yet though so random named ones wouldn't likely show up so soon. You can promote of course, hells if i remember how that worked. Tere wrote that part.

Promotions easy as long as you have an open slot. Doesnt cost anything but time (a week to get them stepped up).

As far as gas traps, knockout, kill, confuse, whatever you like.

Ruler as far as those go its fine, but that trait wont be as strong as its Unique counterpart.
