Greetings and Welcome to Exploration.
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
A Quick Q&AWait, Isn't this a PC Game??? :: To start off with, Yes, I am actually using a Real Game to run this, the reasoning is that the game itself is near impossible to play with Multiple players these days as it was originally a game which was played on one PC, much like a boardgame on the computer. As such I wanted to play this again with you all but at first couldn't work out how to do so. So I ended up with this choice.
So why isn't this in 'Play with your Buddies' Sub-forum??? :: Well for one thing, how many of you go there? Kidding, No the real reason that this feels more at home here in this Forum is due to the fact that the game is being used to run the rules and events much like that many GMs here us dice, where about though I am Cheating by using it I still say that this is more of a game for here then there.
Are you even playing it??? :: Well when you say "Playing it" if you mean I myself as a player, then no. I am more of the Facilitator of this game, I am the medium that you will be able to play this old Gem of a game, so I get to be GM without rolling dice and making up rules, Quick everyone else find another game like this...
WOAH PIC HEAVY!!! :: No not really, only the first page will have these pictures. The Pictures are wonderfully drawn and all of it looks amazing, I could go overboard and show EVERY SINGLE PICTURE but I won't. So don't panic, but I am sorry to any Mobile users. Really I am, I am one too...
Whoa this looks hard and too complex ::Nope dead easy, you don't need to do much, check out the bottom of this post, there you will see that you just need to give me basic orders, I will cover pathfinding and all that and that there is little effort for you beyond making sure I have your orders in right before I start that turn. Everything is dead simple to be honest...
Fine, so what do we do??? :: Oh I can get to the explanation fully now? Thanks. If there is anything else you want to know, ask and I will answer. ^_^

Once again, Welcome to Exploration, together we shall search the world and claim it for our Kings and Countries...
Exploration is a Simple game which can get more and more complicated the longer it goes on, you start with a lone ship with which you set forth from your Hometown into the great Seas to find land and wealth via making use of said land in producing more and more wealth. Be it commuing with the locals or eradicating them to claim the Newland for yourselves or just striking the ground and starting a new Outpost in the middle of nowhere. Exploit the land via growing Crops of Silverbeat, Cotten and Tobacco. Mine the wealth of the land by extracting Tin, Silver or Gold. Discover a whole Race of Natives who wear Golden Chains around their necks and build temples out of the Gold. Then Destroy and take said gold.
It is all up to you, But needless to say, there are others trying to do the same thing, make peace or war, wipe them out or live beside them...
Exploration gives us 5 Nations to play with. Spain, Portugal, Holland, England and France...
Each are sending a Captain out into the world and each Captain is one of their finest, you may know them already...
Needless to say though, you can name them what ever you want...
There are 5 to choose from, but perhaps we can change it up if more wish to play...
If wanted, we could play a simple game of Captain. Each ship built or bought by each Nation can be captain'd by a different player, the funds are on loan from the Nation, so you need to get yourself an Outpost producing something to Pay them back, work together with each other or just try and exploit the land for your own wealth, its up to you. To be clear though, the World can be Randomly Generated, we could play with a 'Real World' map where there is a general reshaping of the actual world into the games standards but that is all up to you guys...

~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
How to play ::Playing this game is very easy, the controls are simple and roguelike in standards and all the finer things are easy to understand, but then again, you ain't the one in full control, your job is to give me instructions that are then done for you and the result is posted for your amusement. Sound fun? Yes?? Good...
Moving :: Moving a Ship or Expedition is simple, each unit has a certain amount of spaces it can move;
Ships being the easiest. Ships move over the sea at the same speed no matter what, each tile is one movement point so there is no problems there. To move your ships you can give me basic cardinal directions such as N, S, E, W and So forth. Give me Basic Orders, "Travel West until you reach land then cycle Clockwise along the coast" or give me explicit directions using all movement actions such as moving a Caravel with 9 orders...
Expeditions are effected by the terrain; Rivers, Steppe, Mountains, Hills, Plains, Forests and so forth have different movement restrictions. Once again though you can give me any kind of orders and I will follow them with the aim towards MAXIMUM MOVEMENT. That is, I will try and traverse the easy path through the Terrain...
Tile - Movement Cost
--------------------------
Water - 1 (Ships only)
Plains - 1
Swamp - 3
Hill - 2
Rocky Hill - 2 (There are two symbols for them but they are the same)
Mountain - 3
Mountain Range - 4 (The mountain range is different by having a larger looking symbol and normally a collection of them together)
Forest - 1
River - 3
Steppe - 1
Desert - 2
Actions ::Ships have 6 Orders they can be given;
Setup Course - This sends you to the Minimap where you can set up routes which the ship can be automated to take, these are best used as traderoutes.
Wait - Waiting will skip that ships action in the list of units available, Game Mechanic use only tbh.
Anchor/Fortify - This will set the ship to be skipped completely, they will remain in the same tile without replenishing their Movement pool each turn. Activating them will take a full turn but this also means they may be stronger in combat.
Form Expedition - This will allow you to move Wares out of the Ship and onto land, it requires at minimum 1 sailor to be part of the expedition for it to be valid. Try and remember the min amount of men needed to sail so that you can still move your ship as this will not cause a ship to lose any movement actions.
Unload Army - This will allow you to place any loaded Soldier unit from the ship to land.
No Orders - Similar to Wait but empties the Movement Pool completely, the ship will be available for action next turn.
Expeditions have all but Unload army as you can not have an Soldier unit in an expedition, they also gain the ability to Build Town, this costs Doubloons to do and will replace the Unit with an Outpost and place all carried goods into the Outpost's Warehouse.
Outpost Expansions ::Outposts need Expansions to be able to produce goods for sale in the Hometown Port.
At different levels of Population the Strength of the Outpost raises and gains a new level, at 100pop it becomes a Settlement. And at 500 it becomes a Tradepost.
There are also Four kinds that do not use any nearby tiles, each expansion costs a certain amount of Doubloons but sadly I can not remember them all, they are as follows;
Warehouse - 800D
The warehouse adds 100t storage to the city.
Church - 2000D
Gives a bonus towards your standings with the Church, you will need to build one in every outpost to keep the Church Happy though.
Fort - Tradepost + 5000D
Upgrades your Outpost into a Fort when you gain a certain amount of Population and have the correct coins in storage. The fort gives a boost to any stationed units and also have a stronger Defensive attack compared to lower levels of Outposts.
Port - Unknown Requirements
Upgrades your Outpost into a Fort when you gain a certain amount of Population and have the correct coins in storage. Like the fort it gives the boosts to their defense and stationed units, and also allows ships to enter its tile and enter a Port Screen much like Homeport's Here you have nearly all the same utilities available in the Homeport though a few are missing and things are slightly different.
Plantations - 5000D, 8000D , 10000D
Each plantation can be built on any tile, though Rivers and Plains have higher production abilities then a forest or mountain. The three Plantations are; Sugar, Tobacco and Cotton. In rising cost order.
Mines - 15000D, 25000D, 40000D
Mines can be built on any tile, thought Mountain Ranges and Mountains have a higher Producetion abilities then plains and such, there is a mid level production boost with Hills and Rocky Hills though.
Delete Plantation/Mine - X
Last I checked this removes the expansion and returns a percentage of the cost back to the city's warehouse.
