Bridges and roads can be broken. Floora all the way.

I once attempted to floor over a fairly long dirt entrance hall to prevent tree growth. Took forever, tied up entire masonry force. Do not recommend.

The Toad hops in mysterious ways.
This pure mountain spring water is indispensable. Literally. I'm out of paper cups.

rough roads = erode over time
paved roads = never erode

Roads = Nothing can grow on them so that allows for a wagon to get to your fortress EVERY TIME they come.

Dirt roads? Well technically once they're constructed they stop existing. They literally exist to remove vegetation and furrow soil (useful for clearing farming space). If you've got a budget, farm plots could completely replace paved roads in their main purpose ^_^

Yeah but it looks like some took a huge shit and dragged their ass over the carpet.

Yeah, but I've noticed that a tantrum throwing dwarf takes a LONG time to rip up a road. Keeps the rage away from other dwarves' skulls.

Build 1x1 platinum roads in rooms, it counts as a structure so it improves room value on top of existing floor.  You can get some massively expensive rooms if you make the room expensive, fill it with expensive items, and then pave it with 1x1 expensive roads.

Similarly, dwarves can admire a fine road lately.

Thought structures erased engravings and reset floor materiel to surrounding layer value... Can't figure out what engravings are worth, but wouldn't that hurt room value?

Pretty much they just use less resources than a floor and they block tree growth if they're paved floors.  Not useless, though they have their uses.

Also, I like to line the roads leading to my forts with 1 tile wide stockpiles set to accept goblin/troll/enemy corpses.  After a while, I've got two rows of corpses lining my roads as a testament of what happens to our enemies.

That is an insane and dangerous plan.  I approve wholeheartedly.
