Vampire On The Loose - Baby Is To Blame?
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:37:24 pm »

So... Catten the Milker was found drained of all his blood after being missing for a week. His corpse was found in the dormitory after someone fell asleep on him. So, awkward.

Anyhow, I started searching. I looked through every dwarf for the tell-tale signs. No eating, drinking, sleeping, etc. Having the descriptor: "She needs alcohol to get through the work day, and could really use a drink." I looked through my 100 dwarves and the only person fitting these descriptors was a Dwarven Baby. Eight months old. Her deity cursed a dwarf sometime 17 years ago with vampirism, but her age states 8 months old. Am I just leaping to conclusions, or is this child Satan?

I have another vampire, but I slammed her into the military and threw her across a river on top of a mountain. She hasn't come back since, and is still stationed there.

I will continue monitoring the baby.

Good god. The other vampire took joy in slaughter recently. There is no occurrence of her ever having fought.

Also, the nickname would really work. He's described as having no empathy, and she is not easily moved to pity.

(Let me check on the baby. Yeah, his mom's got him.)

Suffer not the infant to live. If it turns out that it was a vampire then you will have simply killed two birds with one stone.

What if the vampire-baby eventually saves a life through an emergency blood-letting?

What if? What if?

You can't venture the present on a future that may not come about. That can only end in tears.

Tears and a distinct lack of dead babies.

The troubling thing is that the only vampire in my world that is "out of the coffin", as the parlance should go, has just taken joy in slaughter without ever having engaged in combat. Did she somehow sneak away from her mountain post and kill the milkman?!

Don't tell anyone that you can see their shadows. If they hear you telling anyone, if you let them know that you know of them, they will get you.

So long as they are physically capable of pathing, vampires will still feed. Burrows seem to prevent your stationed vampires from leaving for anything except feeding in my experience.
