I'm sorta mystified that there isn't a thread about this already.

This is a free, online, multiplayer, battle simulator, for all of the core Pokemon games.

You can even set stuff up to build teams from specific generations and alter EV points.  Thus it is poke battling at its finest without the horrors of EV grinding or trying to grab up specific event only types.

I recently gave it a try and it is pretty awesome.  Perhaps this could use a Bay-12 team?

I'm neotemplarvellum on their system, send me a message or challenge my admittedly shoddy team to battle.

I play this too, my main team consist of Kanto only while I also have 2 monotype teams. I used to be a gym leader for a really small server back in 4th gen but....big changes with 5th gen and haven't gotten into the swing of things yet.

I believe we're talking about full scale colonisation here.  You don't just leave all your shit in the van when you move house.

I never really was a huge nerd for the games, with EV points and whatnot, but I loved the actual games for the battles and leveling, so I'm considering trying this out. Suggestions for somewhere to look to get into this?

Gamefaqs has a decent list of competitive stuff under the Pokemon White/Black games.  I sorta looked at that and the adapted in my own style.  Smogon allegedly has tiers but I have not looked.  For general information look at the Bulbapedia.

Smogon generally has the most widely accepted tier list (especially on Gamefaqs). That said, there are more competitive pokemon simulators than the one linked here, and several have their own community lists differing from Smogon's.

As far as I know, this one is really the only major one left, now that Shoddy Battle stopped updating and the staff went to help with Pokemon Online.

That said, I love this thing. I have an all-NU (Smogon's Never Used) tier team that I troll the Ubers with. Nothing enrages a Kyogre-based ubers rain team more than a Quagsire with Yawn. (Immune to thunder, heals from water spout, and ice beam does pitiful damage. Awwww yeeeeaaah.) Though my favorite starter for the tier has to be Sawk. (Not recommended for normal Ubers play.)

Sawk vs. Deoxys-S is an extraordinarily common matchup. Most of the time, a Deoxys likes to put up Stealth Rock before anything else. When they see a 'weak' fighting type, they go straight for Psychic. Thus I go straight for Payback. Psychic leaves me with 1 hp left due to Sturdy, and then Payback hits like a truck with 140 base power. It's super effective, and comes from Sawk's decent attack stat. Pretty much always a OHKO, except when they have a focus sash. (And then my Salac berry activates and I start tearing them apart with Close Combat until something - Arceus, usually - stops him dead.)

Lets just say my fav move these days is U turn.  Expose the guy weak to fighting moves to the obvious fighting type, U turn into Rotom.  Laugh as they waste a turn.

I haven't played a Pokemon game since Pokemon Crater died so many years ago. It was my favorite, and nothing I've seen since matches up to the awesomness that it was. I will check this out when I have free time later though.

Pokemon's advanced gameplay is too complex for me to really get into it. Worse yet it isn't even all laid out for you, you actually have to do quite a bit of research if you don't decide to have your teams dictated to you.

As well the tier system in Pokemon makes a game based around player to player pokemon battles a lot less interesting. My Clefairy is sad now.

Which is ultimately what is going to kill the game. Eventually the player base is going to catch onto what the game is and simply stop playing. With a resurgence during 6th generation.

The tier system is what allows you to have a place to use your Clefairy, I'm not sure how that's killing anyone. I, for one, am fully aware of what the game is and I enjoy it thoroughly.

(PS: The tiers are only one-way. I can use my Relicanth to smash people up in Ubers, but Groudon can't go  down and crush NU or Little Cup.)

I must ask... You say that the gameplay is complex, not straightforward, requires research to do well... and this is a bad thing?

...So, how's DF these days?

I said it is too much for me to get into. I never said it was bad and I wasn't implying it.

My inability to get too invested is compounded by the sheer amount of research I'd have to do to find this out.

As well

Spoilered because I overreacted and capslocked it... Sorry...

However for example the "Trick Room Smoochum" strategy.

Not what I meant either. I never implied the game wasn't fun. At least I didn't mean to imply that.

Alright, sorry. I interpreted your last sentence as 'eventually everyone's going to realise how overcomplicated and boring the game is and give up on it'.

I will admit I didn't expect this response.
