Need some advice before doing something drastic in-game.
« on: April 15, 2012, 02:42:13 am »

Hi, i am kinda new to DF and i have some questions before i make something:
One of my dwafts had a baby with some awesome attributes;
He is incredibly quick to heal , indefatigable, very agile, quite durable , mighty.
He is 4 years old, and i was thinking what to do with him, and friend said i should:

1-Make his parents die by the hands of goblins prisoner, meanwhile the kid is watching how the goblin murders them and make him grow up to hate goblins and no fear of  death.
2-Put the kid in a insolation room after watching his parents die with food in the same room.
3-When he is 10, drop a dog and make him kill the dog.
4-Wait for him to turn 12 and make a danger room and let him there for some time.

That is what he told me to do, but i am quite nervous about doing that cause i dont know if killing his parents infront of him will make him bloodthirsty and he going around saying "I am Batman" and then go beserk and kill everyone. Or maybe he gets over it and the insolation makes him angry for the rest of his life. Maybe not, but what about if the dog kills him when he is 10?

What i should do with this kid?

5-Let him fulfill his life dreams of being the best potash maker ever.

Also insolation rooms ftw.

Make dwarven child care. The thread is in the first pages of this board.

Look into the "dwarven childcare" thread where Girlinhat has a...variation...of your plan that you may find...interesting. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=91093.0

(1) Ten's too old; proper Unsullied need to kill their puppies when they're toddlers.

(2) Dwarves are impervious to the moral horror that is puppy-killing.

(3) Dwarven children are worthless little bums who won't lift a finger to kill a puppy even if it means starving to death due to a lack of -puppy tallow biscuits-.

Honestly, all the above is only ever done for flavor. The best thing to do with a potentially great dwarf is to minimize unnecessary risk, wait until he's grown and draft him into the military. It's probably worth your while to make him a legendary pump operator, but the stat gains from military training are all you really need.

This is all indicative of his potential as a potash maker.

Cheese has some use.  Potash is useless.

Cheese has some use.  Potash is useless.

Unless you like making clear glass everything, like I do (clear glass is absurdly low-value for the sheer amount of work that goes into it though - needs sand, and then wood->ash->potash->pearlash, then finally you can make one solitary item of clear glass. Or you could make the same item from iron or silver and it'll have double the value... the only redeeming feature of clear glass is that it looks great. Could also argue its impracticality makes it more dwarfy.)

On topic - make him Legendary everything. If he's a child now he'll probably hit top rank in social skills before he reaches adulthood and become your mayor by age 12. Then get him started on mastering every craft known to Dwarfkind, and train him in the use of every weapon available.
