I agree on the Atlantean OP thing. At least their farms cost more than twice as much as other civs'.
And favor is the main problem I have with the Norse. Not enough favor rolling in, so I can't take advantage of that Hel upgrade that makes myth units spawn really really fast. Of course, with all the rush attacks the AI sends me...

Ooh, nostalgia wave. Impenetrable Isis death forts that required Rocs (or unreliable allies) to infiltrate. Mmmm....

Excellent game. Just a shame that the online servers don't work anymore... keep getting version errors. :(

Use GameRanger, it's not that complex to start up and it basically sets up the game for you in a Hamachi style, except you don't fiddle with anything except inviting people to your game :)

I don't normally play Norse(prefer Isis, the turtling bastard I am), but one time I tried to keep a lean military to save pop space, trained as many gatherers and dwarves as I could, then used Ragnarok.

I think I had a few Fire Giants in there, which went with the whole thing.

Need to play this again. I have a few times in the past managed to get somewhat far in the campaign but never completed.

Oh I just played this with friend some time ago via hamachi, took a little googling around to get it to work though. I haven't really played it this much though. Just finished campaign some time ago.

AoM is my favorite game of all time. I was a semi-well-known scenario designer back in the day. I was friends with some of the bigger names like yeebaagoon, nottud, etc. lol

Some of my favorite gaming moments were from this game.

To anyone who can't log into the multiplayer, it's still up. I play online all the time. The problem is that the new company that owns it screwed up the CD keys in some way, or something, and you have to call them and complain to actually be able to log in, if you bought a copy after they took over. (Or something like that, I don't really know exactly.)

Oh wow, watching that really took me back. Might want to up the volume on your mic (and the game, as well) a bit, though; you were somewhat hard to hear at some points. Was overall an enjoyable watch, though.

My mic is as high as it will go. Believe it or not I actually have my voice at 300% volume though I guess I could kick it up another hundred. The background is easy enough, it really was only that quiet so you could hear me but it could use a little raising.

OK, I have to reload the save.
There was a bit of a problem regarding flashfreezing, a ballistae, and a barrel of dwarven ale. Gonna fix it up.

Oh god, AOM is one game that really should have gotten more attention- Like Battle Realms. Even today the graphics are pretty neat, imho, and the diversity of the factions and the gameplay are just great.

Installed it again, choose a 1o1 with thor, random map (Anatolia) against egyptians with Re. A.i was a bit cocky at the start and wanted to annoy me- But i built up a quick harrassing force (5 Raiders, or how those are called in english) and attacked the enemies base- Killing one, two peasants there, sometimes a priest or a pharaoh and retreated before the enemy could strike back. Back at home my valkyrie healed them (It was a small map, so retreating back to my base was more secure than risking my valkyrie at the front) and they were sent raiding again. The wildfire god power was used to disrupt the enemies base further- Killed around 3 peasants and damaged some buildings.

This allowed me to gather ressources faster, which allowed me to win the tech race and to build up a nice, little army- 10 Axethrowers, some Ulfsarks, some huscarls, additional raiders, some jarls, a ram and the mythic creatures gained through advancing. Thors goldmine and the cheap weapon upgrades provided by it provided an extra edge.

Destroying the enemy was easy then; I sent in some raiders at the flanks first, splitting the enemy forces up. When my main army arrived they were too scattered to put up much of a fight- The Towers did the most damage. While i destroyed their two towns my Raiders encircled the base and killed any peasant that tried to flee.

Joy.

It didn't get more attention mostly because people viewed it as a Age of Empires clone (clone isn't the best word) in a time when a lot of those were being made.

Best RTS ever. Well, pretty much the only one I ever liked. I will love this game forever, even though I was shit at it.

I even remember playing World Roleplay or Art Contest on multiplayer. Those were fun times.
