Unfortunately neither are possible.

Regarding baiting the cube, the best I can say is "maybe".
The way retreating works in this game is that the winner stays in the sector where the combat took place, while the retreating ships randomly land in one of the 8 adjacent sectors. It's rather hard to make an AI-controlled ship move where you want it to.

Regarding upgrading, it's just not part of the game. Ships like our destroyers automatically get upgraded to "type 2" as soon as it's available, even without heading home to a friendly drydock. Likewise your ships only have one type, and so cannot be upgraded. All our ships are at full hitpoints, so don't worry about repairs.

Argh.  :(

Well, I guess we should pull the fleets back anyway. Last thing we want is for some enemy to show up out of the black and wipe some ships out.

Wow the Borg are rather unthreatening in this game...

"Capable of wiping out three powerful fleets" means "unthreatening" now?

No the wrecking untold destruction of 9 million people is. Also technically the wiping out three fleets too. I am sure he will be destroying borg cubes on his own eventually.

We need to get a response up and ready quick. How long would a fleet of Galaxy Commands take to put together? For now, biding our time and prepping our forces is most certainly in order. But we don't want that cube to be hanging out for too long, hopefully it will decide to stay in Zadar and bomb the colony. The loss of people is horrible but I'd sooner lose the colony or colonies before losing all our fleets and subsequently everything else.

Fuck. Man. I thought that Turn 190 in my game was the earliest appearance of Borg Cube I've seen. Seems you broke a new record :P

I believe you could do what I did - push aside all threats and churn out a fleet of warships. I managed to bump my fleet from 12 to 25 in just 10 turns. And then do that again to battle the Second Cube. You have the money, I see - use it.

As for the Borg - they don't leave until colony population drops to zero. In the same moment, all planets turn to 'barren' with special graphic, which turns even the largest and prettiest system into mediocre bunch of planets.

EDIT: You know what, this actually feels like a parallel universe - in which Borg attack earlier, before Federation has mighty fleets on it's disposal :P

EDITEDIT: Oh, and Admiral Haspen and his ships are ready to face the Borg when necessary.

EDITEDITEDIT: Also, could you pull out a galaxy map so I can see the position of Zadar, our members' system and Sol? Colonies can be re-settled. Loss of valuable ally or home system is somewhat heavier on our strength...

Well bear in mind that Zadar only had about 27 millon to begin with. It was a fresh colony that we had not been developing long. Don't worry, if they make it to Sol you'll see death tolls in the 80 million range.

Jarod Cain, you're in favor of Command Cruisers? We could build a fleet of 9 pretty quickly, I'd estimate we could have it assembled in 6 turns or so. But that will depend on a lot. Unfortunately we can't afford to buy many of them, since they're so expensive. So I doubt we could build more than 1 fleet of 9 in a short time.

Haspen, in regards to your third edit. Check my last spoiler in the "for reals" section. In terms of your other comments. We've already got 18 destroyer II's, and 7 cruiser-equivalent minor race ships. We're doing about as good as you were number-wise, but most of your fleet was cruisers. So we definitely need to bulk up.

You however forget that just before battling the cube, my Light Cruisers got II upgrade thanks to my techs being at level 5 or 6 or what have you.

Just make a fleet of 40 warships. 1 is destined to survive :P

Also, try to theoretize Cube's next destination. It always jumps to the closest system it can find.

Here's what I've gathered so far:
  • We should hold off on engaging the cube until we build up. (universally agreed-upon)
  • Haspen and Sirus are in favor of generic warships, and don't seem to be too picky about the number or type. (though Haspen wants a lot of ships)
  • Jarod Cain wants the fleet to be Galaxy-class command cruisers. They're beefy but expensive, so that means we'll only be able to afford one fleet of them.

Therefore the "consensus" would be one fleet of 9 Galaxy's, then attack. Or at least that's how my logic would end up working.

I'd like as much discussion on the matter as possible, so please feel free to continue making comments on what we're going to do about the cube. I'll do my best to provide insight without being too pushy, and we'll all hash out the plan together.

Yeah, I'm fine with whatever. If these Galaxy ships are as beefy as everyone says they are, they will make a fine sacrifice front-line fleet. And if any survive, we'll be even more dominant in the galaxy! Win-win!

Crusiers honestly are going to be our best bet. They have the HP and firepower to possibly survive and get shots off and are the best our tech has to offer. No matter what though this is going to be an ugly and desperate fight. Good luck.

And ton of casualties. Scouts and Mirandas are one-shot. Light Cruisers I are two-shots, Galaxies, three shots. Minor Race warships are always one-shot.

I think the list of destroyed ships will be longer than mine ;v

So it seems like the biggest debate is about what kind of cruiser we want.

I think we can crank out either 18 light cruisers or 9 command cruisers. Which is better might be debatable. When I get home I can check the stats of each ship, or maybe Haspen can. It may be that the command cruisers may be able to deal more total damage than a larger group of light cruisers.

The key is that we're bound to lose most of our ships in the opening volley. Borg Cubes deal the most hurt up-front with super-powered phasers. It's going to come down to how many torpedoes we can get launched, and how much damage they'll do when they hit. I don't know off the top of my head what the math looks like for this type of battle.

Which do you think we should pick?
