new to DF and using ASCII. I don't care much for graphics when there is such an amazing and complex game underneath it. Plus I'm learning how things work quicker than I expected. I thought it would take me ages to figure out the meaning of those icons.

I use Hanuman 12x12. It's basically the default, squared out and made 12x12. It works quite well for me.

Some times I use Phoebus as well.

ASCII forever. DF is the only game I can stomach ASCII for, though.

For now I prefer the ascii. But if Toad keeps adding new animals I'm probably going to have to switch over at some point.

Phoebus. Just no other tileset compares.

Though I sometimes try Jolly Bastion's ASCII when I want to adventure into ASCII.
First it was me being guilted into it. Now it's just out of curiousity since the wiki always uses ASCII.

To the newbies: Don't let the elitists (or in my case, imaginary bully) make you feel like a newb for using tilesets. Its the equivalent of Minecraft texture packs. Doesn't make it any easier/harder.

That said, do experiment. It's fun to see your fort in several different ways

Well.. I haven't spent a long time with JB. :S But it feels like ASCII.

And I completely forgot Mayday. If I remember right, I started with yours (confused it with Ironhand).
Sadly, I switched when coming to a spot with redsand after upgrading/trying to figure out how tilesets installed).. I'd thought you'd changed the graphics, but it may have just been the biome. But it prompted me to switch.

Then again, I never asked what the tileset was, so I may have started with a different tileset.

I can play in ASCII well enough but it's simply not as enjoyable for me. Instead of watching a story unfold I have to put a whole lot of effort into discerning what's going on.
