Author Topic: So, Fortress-Mode Adv Mode metagaming: setting up relief stations?  (Read 4768 times)

So, the thing is, I want to try adv mode. But my world is a frozen wasteland. So I was thinking on creating relief stations with wells dug in, and caches of food, weapons and animals, and then abandoning them. How would this turn out?

Animals would die and become skeletons.

Water would not be gettable.

The items would scatter, lead/platinum bins may cancel this out though.

Any animals that are members of your civ die when the fort is abandoned.

I'm not sure what happens to caged wild animals on abandon.

Lead/platinum bins were reported to ameliorate the scattering problem in earlier releases.

I'm not sure about what happens to wells.  Digging a path to the caverns (and the pools contained therein) sounds idiot-proof to me.

with dfhack you can make it a lair, which will prevent scatter. You should be able to drink booze as long as it isn't frozen, and eat your prepared meals.

A animal corpse may scatter into the water.



Nothing in DF is idiot-proof.

Is there any reason why wells won't work other than the possibility of a corpse ending up there?

Can adventurers use wells? I'm not sure. Failing that, then each of your supply stations could be tucked away in the first cavern layer along with the water. Fight your way through the crundles to get to the food!

they can use the wells in the various towns and villages, so I don't see why not.

Just a small 2x2 embark is all you need, providing you spam a lot of food and resources.

Also what's wrong with drinking corpse water? :P

You can't refill your waterskin off stagnant water, but there is no problem in drinking water coatings off your body/gear after dunking in the same water.
