Journal of Zasit Cudistushat

Granite-28th

"Zasit! We kind of run into a bit of a problem!"

Those where the words that Gigi echoed to me the morning of the 28th. She and StrangeMood stood above a staircase that would lead down another level even under that of the workshop floor, which now had been all mined out. The staircase below them appeared to be fine at first glance, however upon inspecting it further I noticed a rapidly increasing leak that spewed water into the lower levels.

"You cant get down?"

They shook their heads and looked at me for further instruction.

"Try one of the other workshop rooms then, try and breach it a bit further do-"

"We already did, same results" StrangeMood's face showing a bit of sadness and concern, as well as frustration and overall discontent with the current situation at hand.

"I'll figure something out later, go have a drink and rest, you guys have done good, I mean. Just look at this entire level!"

Attached is a sketch by Zasit showcasing the workshop floor.

Slate 10: We did it, we survived the first month, thank the gods too, I thought for sure we where in for it. Anyway, I've begun telling StrangeMood and Gigi to carve out a dormitory on the dining floor, as well as begun constructing some basic beds myself, I'm no wood worker, but overall the quality isn't too bad thus far, I mean I am only done with a couple of frames but they are good!

Corai also approached me a couple days back consulting about setting himself up a forge on the workshop floor, to which I replied "What Metal?" and his face went dumbstruck and overall embarrassed as he walked away. Never the less I have ordered for something to be constructed just to appease him and give him somewhere to hang around besides the wagon that sits outside at the wagon.

Overall we are making good progress, I also drew up another sketch showing the dining floor, or at least, some of it anyway.

Is the long shape of the fortress a coincidence or is it designed to match the wall?

Ewwww. Aquifier? If you don't already know - Aquifier page on the DF Wiki - I've always found that the plug / cave-in method the best for this, as long as you have multiple z-layers to work with. If we do, Gigi's going to start work on a... let's say a 5x5 plug for a 3x3 staircase. We'll start the plug on the surface, create some kind of crane-support pillor attachment at the top, then drop it through the aquifier. I've tried just deconstructing a connecting floor for the drop before - it kills the dwarf taking away the floor most of the time, or flings them into the aquifier.

@NRDL: Not yet, these starting seven will probably not ever make it into the military, or at least not now. I've been waiting on migrants which I haven't received any of yet. Sorry!

And Strangemood that long shape is because of the wall design, it's totally intentionally, all the floors will probably be like that except for a couple of branch offs for things such as breaking aquifers or other odd troubles that we may come in contact with.
