Strand extractor strange mood?
« on: April 13, 2012, 07:24:18 pm »

I know it may sound stupid, but my strand extractor got possessed and won't claim any workshop. I thought he'll just go to the nearest craftsdwarf's workshop, but he didn't. I have pretty much any other type of workshop, but he doesn't want to claim any of them. Any ideas what should I do?

Have you found magma yet? What are his other skills?

Is he by profession an actual strand extractor or is there a different skill?

Can he reach the workshop? Is it forbidden?

Yes, that's his profession and the only skill he has.

He has no other skills but some combat/social skills and dabbling in butchery. But there is also a butcher's shop and he is free to claim either it or the craftdwarf's, nothings is locked, burrowed or forbidden...

No magma yet, but I have a normal forge and some fuel. Dwarves don't claim furnaces during moods, do they?

... Odd. Really odd. I think Strand extractor may work diferently than most moods. You can't artifactually extract a strand, now can you. D'you have a forge? A clothier's shop? Anything to work his adamagic in?

Forge, Loom, Clothier and Craftdwarf's shop. All that could be linked with strands, clothes and candy.

Wouldn't a strand extractor default to woodcrafting, or whatever the mood is that kids get?  Maybe it's some random craft skill.  Anyway, strand extraction isn't moodable is it?

If you've got craftsdwarf shops, I'm not sure what his problem would be.

(Note - Specifically, and to avoid previous misunderstandings, Strand extractor, Clerk/Administrator/Trader, Doctor (and related), Architect, Recruit and Child are moodable professions.)

It is.

Even mining is and that's basically masonry for moody purposes.

Strand extractor, the profession, is moodable. As it is also his highest skill, he should be going after a craftsdwarf's workshop.

What...?
He just claimed the leather works...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So not worth it :P

The only possible explanation I can come up with is that he had no moodable skills and went for a random craft-skill, which apparently goes also for craft-skills that aren't performed at the craftdwarf's shop. I thought they will always claim the craftdwarf's shop, but looks like I was wrong.

whenever that fortress falls, you should have an adventurer go in there and grab that cape.

Rock salt.  If nothing else, he can scrape off a few grains to season his food.

SO LAME.
Spikes of rock salt? Is the wearer of this cape supposed to be a walking salt lick for livestock?
On the upside, you should give it to a dwarf and nick him Super Midget.

Dear Armok, you guys just made me realize that half of my furniture is made of SALT. Whenever the dwarves dine and want to spice up they meal they can simply take a chunk of the table and sprinkle it on their kitten roast. Or the cooks can just take their rocksalt earrings and throw them in a stew when needed.

The possibilities... are endless.
