EDIT: I am almost certain that we're safe to go down, because that gap is miniscule. It might be the hole a worm went through at the most, but it's still really, really small.
Given that we can't see the bottom of the cavern, it most certainly isn't a hole made by a worm (unless it was quite a big worm).

Maybe we...you know...can't see very far? Remember, he showed us a zoom-out shot of our actual size a while back - we were very, very small. Small enough that you wouldn't really notice us if we were above ground, unless you were looking at the ground.

Oh yes, I forgot about that. In that case why are you so strongly opposed to the idea of going closer to the surface?

Humans and others tend not to look were they put their feet. Besides we crashed here as a meteorite so there's a small chance someone will be looking for pieces.

Which is why my suggestion was that we stay beneath the surface, as far away from the surface that will allow us to see what is going on there.

Why not use tendrels (with a bit of assimilation) to cover our entry hole, then pull our entire body into the cavern. Assimilating all medium density material we can on the way.

Let's also go and assimilate all the medium density matter except that dangerously close to the surface.

if rather than assimilating both directions we only do one for a couple of cycles then we can flex it through the cavern and see if we sweep across anything interesting.

Let's also go and assimilate all the medium density matter except that dangerously close to the surface.

Seconded, more energy generation is good.

The cavern seems to be quite wide. I say we assimilate some more medium-density matter, but also reinforce that stalactite with low-quality crystals so it is 3 tiles wide. Also cerapa, I might try my hand at writing a program to count the pixels of a certain colour. What format do you have your pictures in on your computer?

I use the thing that graphicsgale uses, but I can save my images as png(and do so for the images in this thread). Such a program would be exceedingly helpful.

Seems we are going with assimilating some MedD too. Might take a while, since you are growing 47 to 71 tiles in a single cycle, and sideways, meaning I need to make a bunch of terrain.
