I vote for following the cave in all directions untill our energy production meets our storage/ we discover something interesting.

Sounds good, with our current flow we can assimilate over 50 squares a cycle though so a couple of cycles doing that means we will probably need to expand storage again.

we don't want to fill the cave eith low quality cristals. what I sugest is that we asimulate mater along the edge of the cave, as much as posible, then when we have it completly sourounded make a layer of low quality crystal to help keep it from colapsing and to provide an incubator for midquality crystal. we then grow in from the outside.

As a mid quality crystal replaces, and must be surrounded by, low quality ones then growing from the inside out is actually more efficient. Currently we can, depending what 'surrounded' means, either already convert a low to mid, just above our current one, or grow two more low and then convert.

@cerapa when you said surrounded did you mean the 4 cardinal directions or including diagonals for all 8?

Edit: When we built a medium crystal did the construction material come out of the newly assimilated medium density matter and had to be use the turn we assimilated or does the fact we've use 2 construction out of our 47 medium density supply mean we have 2.7 to play with?

Shades, regarding the construction material, I believe that it is shown with the red and green numbers next to our assimilated medium-density material. I have another suggestion: that we go up close to the surface (2 tiles beneath it), and then go sideways to look for stuff on the surface.

Ahh yes, that makes sense. My brain ignored it as stages like the low density has :)

I have another suggestion: that we go up close to the surface (2 tiles beneath it), and then go sideways to look for stuff on the surface.

That could be sensible, maybe we can build of of those tendrils of low-density matter and push that up to take a look? or maybe it's just easier to create a few crystals. I'd feel happier about loosing the tendril if we needed to escape whats up there though.
We are going to have to check it out eventually anyway.

NO STOP NO NO NO BAD IDEA BAD BAD BAD IDEA STOP GOING ALONG THOSE LINES OF THOUGHT

We have NO DEFENSES WHATSOEVER. Going out into open air is a terrible terrible idea and we shouldn't follow it up for another metamorphosis or two.

We're checking out the surface when we can actually do so without being discovered defenseless, we don't need to do so right now and we have plenty of open cavern to expand in right now.

That's why I support the "fill the cavern first".

As for growing from the outside in rather than the contrary, I'd say that this way we'll have a better sense of our surroundings. We scout first, in fact.

And it won't waste any time either, since we'll fill the same number of tiles, in the same time. Just in a different order. Plus, as we crawl alongside the edges, we could assimilate from these points, and further increase our income.

Finally, it's the natural way.

And hope not to encounter any speleologists.( How big are we anyway. In SI-measurements(Cm, m). Are we visible with the bare eye?)

Definitely continue to grow before encountering the above-world.

But what makes you guys so sure that the cavern is uninhabited? We could be facing equal dangers the deeper we go, much like the surface. I say keep building crystals around the low-density matter, and make roots of assimilated matter mid-level, not too high, not too low.

I think we should spread as rapidly as we can in several directions, forming long ropy tendrils, until we find something interesting. spreading along the walls of the cave would also be useful. and especially, we should get some kind of more effective sense on our next metamorphosis. Maybe learn how to make some kind of crystal that gives us a much larger sight around itself?

I vote spread outwards from our current "stalactite" so we can add more medium crystals there.

EDIT: I am almost certain that we're safe to go down, because that gap is miniscule. It might be the hole a worm went through at the most, but it's still really, really small.
