I don't understand the liquid crystal suggestion. We already assimilate things fairly easily.

it would be a kind of defensive organ. anything disturbs it, it breaks and they get a big chunk of themselves assimilated. But on the other hand, I'd like to change my vote to Frickin Laser Beams.

I would guess that a part of the crystal entity would be able to assimilate all assimilable spaces around it with a single effort, presumably being much more efficient when assimilating an entire region, but not worth it with a single strand scouting somewhere. It might also permit assimilating on a diagonal. If we invested heavily in liquids than it would seem possible to produce all manner of hydraulic mechanisms...

If you want an assimilating crystal, then you would need the energy to do it.

Now that I think about it, the ideas of the storage bulb and the Liquid Crystal could be combined. If anything disturbs it, it releases a sort of crystal goop, which makes sure that you remain in contact with whatever touched you, and then you either shock the crap out of it or assimilate it, depending on what you can do with whatever is touching you.

But seems Angles vote for Fricking Laser Beams has put the laser ahead.

yeah, but I might change my mind if someone can make a good argument. that combined storage/liquid crystal bulb sounds interesting.

Added my votes. For the record I'm voting for the liquid defense bulbs that trap anything that touches us and either shocks it or eats it.

Need some tiebreakers. Two to be specific.

How useful is seeing? would it expand our sense range through solid matter? Through empty space?

How about the liquid crystal? And the transmission? Those two might actually go together really well, and allow us to release liquid as a reconnaissance measure.

@Liquid Crystal 'huh?'s
Well, it would have more uses than that, theoretically. I mean, it'd make more sense if I just said 'a crystal that is liquid' >_>. Lemme think:
#1: You can break apart matter with it. (Either hydraulic pressure or growing inside the rock- like how a wet road gets cracked when it freezes.)
#2. BECOME THE SEA.
#3. Much easier to move than solid crystal, so it can theoretically be used as a temporary storage/energy unit, depending on what stats it would have.
#4. Unlike solids, liquids are at least somewhat compressible. See also, pressure.

And fluids have all sorts of uses. You can store them at high pressure to spray anything that breaks into them. You can release them under high pressure in a controlled jet to cut things. You can inject them into something to cause it to expand, with the right joints you could turn that into motion. You can move them quickly to shift your mass away from danger or into bounty. You can build a hydraulic ram to puncture something and then inject large amounts of material into it. You can pump it out of a propeller to make the propeller spin to create lift...

And seeing how we can shock adjoining materials through our crystal, it could be a potent weapon, as it can flow.

Crystal magma is my choice. Actually, less magma and more goop.
