Chaos and destruction. Less than half an hour had passed since the the small group of survivors had emerged onto the the surface, fully expecting to find the world a radioactive crapsack, populated with desperate scavengers, vicious raiders and women who seem to feel that the apocalypse necessitates a leather bikini. The truth was even more disturbing than they could imagine.
It seemed that the very laws of nature had been dramatically altered during their stay underground. Things shifted from one form to another, unusual gods blessed their champions with magic crowbars and a horde of creatures who could of made a killing as Planet of the Apes extra wanted to... well, make a real life killing. The little patch of peaceful suburbia where their bunker had nestled was a flaming, smoking ruin filled with the sounds of battle. Apparently, the man-apes social structure allowed their leader enough time off from admin duties to study and enjoy their own interests because he seemed to have some sort of... necromantic power. Truly, theirs must be a strange society. Their female spies seemed to be oddly erotic for vicious ape monsters, too.
As might be imagined, all this was a bit much, especially coming straight after a year of relative calm. Clearly, they had wandered into events far beyond their control. Seeing his bunker mate Lord Bucket flee the scene and the fading of his rush of adrenaline made John start to come to his senses. This was not their fight. He didn't even know
why there was a fight, except that it was about someone's mum, or possible dad. Or a non-gendered life giver. For all he knew the man-apes could be a peaceful people, just responding to human aggression. Yeah. John didn't really buy that one either. Seeing many of the people he knew either confused, cationic or lost in the heat of battle John made a decision. He knew what he wanted. Firstly, he didn't want to be covered in blood. This was a primary goal. Secondly, he wanted a bit of safety, somewhere to relax without worrying that monsters would show up and beat him to death with his own arms. Mainly, he just wanted to get the hell away from here. In the confusion, John grabbed anyone willing to follow him and headed to the East, away from the sounds of battle and towards safety and perhaps, he hoped, some answers to quell the little voice in the back of his head that kept asking how all this was possible.

((Basically, this battles been fun and I'm glad I got first blood (heh, that should really be "glad I decided I got first blood") but what my character really wants is to find somewhere safe, with less vicious fighting and some damn answers. Anyone who was nearby my character who wants to join me, feel free, but I'm also happy going off alone. I've got a *feeling* that I'm going to find a survivor town/fortress/trading post/ den of scum and villainy along the way.
