"Hey, how's it going? Enjoying your stay in that top-of-the-line, luxury cage? I certainly hope so. We try to provide only the best for our most valuable guests, after all. You know, the wood was harvested locally. That's why it still has that refreshing palm scent. And the milk quartz was cut and embedded by one of our finest jewelers in order to ensure perfection.
Anyway, sorry to interrupt your precious R&R, but we have this lovely new defensive system that we would really like to test out, and could simply think of no better person to ask. So, just step right this way, and we should be done before you know it..."

At least, that's how I imagine my dwarves act when they're leading the prisoners guests to the testing zones...
I kind of like your dwarves... They sound very humorous, in a rather dark way...

The Magma hammer takes care of 90% of all sieges while still being pathable. Fast-movers and fire imps get to the 7 or so level drop pit to meet the fortress champions with a separate constructed floor drop pit for elephants and the like. A final squad waits at the trade depot. The entire entrance including the depot and pits can be flushed with magma and of course a portion of the map as well for good measure. Construction is still ongoing on the rapid magma surface flooder mega-project.

One of my favourite goblin/elf/human execution methods:

Drop a creature into a 1x1 square short pit with a weapon trap with a single wooden training sword in it. Very slow and painful.

I think this shows it best.  :D
That looks incredibly efficient... Is it completely automated?

It is!  The center vertical row of creature-sensitive pressure plates start the whole thing off.  That closes the walls to seal the hallway, and opens the magma source above the room, flooding it.
Then a second magma-sensitive pressure plate above the room (at the east end, in the demo) is the "room is full" indicator, which trips the floors to retract.
The third and final magma-sensitive pressure plate below the floors in the "catch all the goblinite" grate room resets the hallway floors and re-opens the hallway.
There's more to it, but that's a brief overview.  I will happily provide the saved game that I made the demo movie with, if anyone is interested, PM me.

I funnel sieges into an area where they come down a staircase into an area covered by 30 elite marksdwarves behind fortifications.

Excellent trap... You'd never have to worry about sieges again - which, while that's not such a good thing, I suppose, it's funny how they march happily straight into it, one after another. It's a lot cleaner-made than my traps, too.

Oh, there are problems with the design, but it does what it was made to do as well as I could make it.

In particular, very heavy creatures are problematic, as bridges don't work well with them.  But that's what the manual override levers are for!

As long as the target in the hallway can't breathe magma and survive, the GGM will kill them, eventually.

No, they sound exactly like the DF community. Same difference though, I guess.

A herd of War Elephants and Rhinos pastured right after the entryway traps and down a level.

A 'Flush Tower' that makes them walk across a 1-tile wide bridge 20 tiles long with occasional traps (to dismember or cause dodges) over a 20-z drop onto a field of upright spikes.  Next to this walkway is the bottom end of a 30-z tall water reservoir with floodgates attached to either levers or pressure plates to 'encourage' my guests to visit the Room of Forced Colonoscopy below.

Target practice is always lulzworthy, and unlike my other designs unusually practical as well.

Tied a dragon to a rope close enough to an entryway with lignite floors to hit it with fire at first provocation.  THAT was fun.

Combine with an army of angry steel-clad midgets, bake at 12000U until deliciously toasty, and serve hot.  Feeds hundreds.

Well, I used to have a bunch of weapon traps leading to a ready-and-waiting unit of swordsmen... then a unit of crossbowmen...
Now however, with ideas carried over from Project Dystopifort, which has three goals: Make a super efficient colony, make living there a nightmare, and come up with a better name that is not two words forced together rather uncomfortably.

Now I have cage traps. All the weapon components have been reused in traps now forming a secondary line of defense between me and the outside (And the cave beasts, as luck would have it.) The cage traps get a lot of things for me to use, and after stripping them, they become great, erm, teachers of the soldie- i mean, children of the fort. These teachers are often... injured, and without insurance, they have to be boile- err, toas- no, what I meant to say was, released back to their homeland. Yeah. There's always more teachers.

Now then, after a good long while passes, these children who have seen many a teacher graduate. They walk down the Hall of Endless Trap- Oops, wrong sheet, ... here it is: The Hall of Celebration, and they exit to the room of draftin- the room of district selection. Yeah.

(For those who don't know, this is an "in character" report from what I hope will become the greatest dystopian fort ever. It's divided into districts with each very similar/the same jobs, a giant "capital" in the center with a giant arena kept stock with all manner of vicious beasts, and under that we have the training room. It's a bunch of 2x2 glass-wall cells with a bed, masterwork furnishing, quantum food hatch, and animal that goes rabid in the confined area. Every one in three children are sent to this room, sealed in for a nice, long while, and come out a supersoldier... or dead. If they really are good, then they get to navigate a hallway of deathtraps MEANT TO TARGET DWARVES ONLY. You know, to test their dodge... and luck. Survivors are immediately drafted. The military has four tasks: hunt large threatening beasts that will not submit to caging, defend the fort from lucky invaders that leak through the traps, keep the citizens under control, and occasionaly preform mighty tasks in the Arena for the enjoyment of the other dwarves.)
