I figured it'd be fun for folks to cover random songs of interest, or come up with their own, regardless of whether they can sing or not.

BE AWARE: Post covers/songs you've made for either fun or for criticism. All of my covers are for fun, so be warned as they suck. =)

I used to sing quite well when I was younger, but I haven't practiced in years and as such, I sound like a rabid cat in heat.

Still, I find it quite fun to record music with friends on skype, for the absolute shits and giggles.

(Cue Azkanan and I singing Roxanne from Moulin Rouge on Skype this week <_< Lmao)

Oh, I have group voicecalls with all my Bay12 buds who RP on my website and play terraria/minecraft/EU3/Civ V/APB Reloaded/Etc with me, and we all just have a blast being idiots on Skype. I happen to be in the mood to sing and then Azkanan starts singing, then Ashton1993 does, and then KingofCurtis does, and then suddenly its a vocal sausagefest of epic proportions and much entertainment to be had.

As for covers, is there anyway to get just the background music so that you don't need a band? I doubt that karaoke tracks are readily available, even on the internet.

I'm actually trying to cover THIS song, with male vocals. Hold on, I'll link to an amateur singer I like a lot who covers this song.

ARGH. God it was frustrating to record this damn song with a cold. I couldn't breathe properly, couldn't hold a note, argh! Fuck it!

Do you need accompaniment? I just glanced at the tabs for the (Sarah Mclachlan version right?) song and they look like I could have them down in a couple days. Just let me know a key and a tempo and I can toss you an mp3.

Oh I just assumed because the cover you linked has a similar guitar part. You're just doing the jazz standard version then? That'll be a more difficult because the chords are a bit more complex and I'll have to work out my own picking/strumming pattern since I don't have a functioning keyboard. It'd be nice if you could see the guy's left hand in that video. :p

I'll see what I can do but you might be better off just using that backing track in that case.

Beasters has an interesting distant, Jazz-y quality to it, I quite like Inside A Polaroid but your drummer needs more practice on leading the guitar with those odd triplets - his timing is slightly off and it causes what sounds like a skipped beat early on in the song, How's The War Going is pretty fun to listen to, the drums sounds much better in this one, and the guitar reminds me of some good old school Rock, my only qualm being the slightly repetitive nature of the main melody. Ohhhh. I'd have to say Magic Debt just got bumped up to my favorite of your songs. The intro isn't very fluid, but everything after 0:42 is great. The last two are pretty good as well.

Not particularly my style of music, so I can't give you proper criticism based on my musical experience, but I can at least give you a bit of constructive criticism as a random listener. =) All in all, you guys are doing good! Is it just a drummer and a guitarist?

That's the issue I had. I love that guys guitar-play in the original video, his fretting hand is out of the picture and I can't be assed to go through the hassle of trying to figure what he's playing.

I've been messing around with it for about the last hour or so and I've got a pretty solid intro and a rough outline of what I want to do with the rhythm. It's not exactly like his because I am too lazy for all that but it is pretty close. I'm thinking it'll be kind of bare bones because I don't really want to have to work on too many fills, but I've got a couple in mind already so we'll see how that pans out. Give me another day to work it all out and then one to polish it to performance quality and I should have something for you.
