I build a fun chamber. I fill a room with multiple hatches leading to a pit that goes 9z's into the chamber. The chamber has special fun under each hatch, some lead to an extra 1z drop that results in insta-gib, some have wild animals chained by them, some fall on spikes, some fall on weapon traps. It's always fun to see what the mass cruelty generator decides to deal the prisoners.

20z drop from the mass pitting room onto masterwork green glass spike traps. Green glass cuz its easy, free, and makes me all warm inside, seeing green and red from exploded corpses :D

Things that don't die (vamps, necros, etc) get locked in a cage, dumped in magma, and then obsidian cast around and over them, so they are forever sealed off from the world. Next fort going to make that room hovering over a dropchute, so I can send their 3x3x3 obsidian prison down to just above the magma sea. Pretty sure the cage in the hollow will deconstruct on cave-in, so I'll need to make sure there's no magma left in their tile, unfortunately... Can't have angry necro/vamp ghosts, after all! :p

Although really an iron equivalent already slices goblin snatchers into tiny pieces.

Copper does the trick just as easily.

A repeating spike pit with water running through it, leading to a waterfall in my dining room/statue garden/temple to Armok. That way my dwarves can bask in the blood-mist of thier enemies.

I have an Gladiator Arena. I pit the captives in and then let a group of military dwarfs in. I even have a viewing area above for dwarfs to sit in their free time.
Also used for population control; A couple of bears VS unarmed migrants. If the migrants win they get put in the military, given a nice room, and occasionally help in executions.
Or training AND cage emptying; I pit the animals into the arena and send one or two dwarfs to kill them. yeah could butcher but wheres the fun in that.

We just need to get Toady to embed a Lisp interpreter into DF.  Learning lambda calculus in order to play the game wouldn't make DF's learning curve much steeper.

this is innovative.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

I make a 1z lvl drop into a corridor 50 or so tiles long and 1 tile wide, usually leading outside, every 3 tiles or so there is a weapon trap with 1 weapon in it.  I leave all the oddball things that get cut off like teeth and the like where they fall and engrave marks on the wall to show how far my prisoners have made it.  Other than that, pitting into a cavern layer with a FB is both fun and practical and a 5z lvl drop into a room filled with low danger animals like puppies can be rather hilarious as well.

The trick is to get them to break all their bones, since they just cannot avoid the traps while in a state of extreme, achy-breaky pain. And it works on dwarves too, since the traps go off on them as soon as they pass out. You can pit creatures through bars without even having to bother with levers.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's a good ol' fashioned goblin shredder. As you can tell from this here lovely photograph, the leg is still flying through the air. It lands all the way over by those cages.

Personally, I always liked lockign them in their bedroom with the catch of the day from the caverns. Lets those who are worthy of dwarfiness live.

My favourite:

Drop a goblin into a 1x1, 1 z-level deep pit with a weapon trap with a single wooden training sword in it. They get hit repeatedly by a blunt wooden stick until they die.

Alternatively, have a shaft with bridges connected to levers every 5 or so z-levels. They fall a bit, break some bones, the lever is pulled, they fall some more, etc., etc.

Or rig something like this hallway:

   D1..........P1..........W..............P2............D2

D1(door 1) is linked to P2(pressure plate 2), and P2 is linked to D1. Drop the goblin in. It keeps them in a loop, running over the W(weapon trap), which I like to make quite inefficient for slower, more painful deaths.

A little ritualistic, but entertaining.

The entrance way to the temple:

The Hall of Sacrifices, lined with platinum statues

The Pit of Offerings, in which the sacrifice is violently dismembered and then drained out of

The Chalice itself:

The Drainage Hatch at the bottom

The Catacombs in which the Chalice drains into to honor the dwarven dead with the blood and gore of their enemies.

So I built an engraved tunnel next to the catacombs. The bloody water runs down this tunnel through a brass grate and into a hole.

Where it goes to this:

The blood of my enemies is combined with the blood of the earth, creating Armok-sanctified obsidian. I am going to use this obsidian to create a giant monolith and road to my fort. I will arm my citizens with blades created from this holy mineral, striking down heresy and spilling blood for him.

This is related to my now-standard garbage disposal system. You pit everything into a huge chute that falls all the way to the magma sea(well, almost). It lands one tile above the magma sea and one of my military dwarves pumps magma over it. Every so often I turn off the pump and recover the magma-safe loot. I have yet to make this work flawlessly, sadly.
