TACTICUS: THE GAME OF BEARDS AND MADNESS
« on: April 11, 2012, 08:58:24 pm »

Tacticus is a traditional dwarven game, enjoyed throughout the multiple billions of universes by all sorts. As would be expected by such an ancient game, there are countless rules, rulebooks, agreements, subrules, exceptions, loopholes, codicils, tomes, and contradictions. Be sure to reference the exact new rules you might make use of going forward.

Let us play yet another game in this great tradition:

Tacticus is played on a flat board; on the left edge is a grassy plain. Going to the right, there is a river running north to east, and then a cliff. There is an extent of stone, and then an underground river. More stone, and a section of the board is marked as a bottomless pit. Past this, there is a further space of stone, and a magma river, and then... the depths in the heart of the mountain, at the far right edge of the board.

In my first move, I play a wagon token and seven peasant tokens, as described in Pantshelm Classic Version 3.5 Part 1. My move action is naturally taken up by the initial immigrant confusion status.

I play a miner and six engravers, asleep for two turns in a wagon, as detailed as legal in the seventh grantheim manual, which IS in fact a legal manual despite what people like to say!

I recall that manual. You have to order it from Nigeria.

That's the sixth one. the seventh one comes from Kazakhstan. Weird set of manuals, but soooo worth it.

I place down a king in the grassy plains, and, as decreed in the kings expansion pack, have him build a kingdom for 5 turns.

Is that the Kings expansion pack for 1050 Centennial Edition, or the 1990 Kingz Expansion "re-imagining"?

The 1990 kingz expansion. As of that, kings' kingdoms spawned actual people, whereas in the 1050 expansion, the kingdoms started out abandoned, and you had to find the people yourself.

((If you ask me, playing as a king wasn't really worth it in the Centennial edition.))

I place a goblin raiding party, consisting of [7] one hunter, and two spearsgoblins, at the upper left riverbank, under the rules of the Vile Forces of Darkness 3 supplement. (based on Pantshelm 3.1)

I haven't played a Pantshelm 3.1 game since 1995.

Very well. For my next turn, I first recruit the peasants and then order them to pick one of their member to be a fell mood victim (supplement 5-B subchapter 'c' for the Double Dwarf rulebook, "crime and punishment: crime edition.")

Wait - doesn't there have to be at least 20 friendly dwarven units before you can use that mood?

So, I'll take my turn during the rules dispute (legal due to the Gravy-Covered Rulebook).

My engravers and Miner keep sleeping. *sigh*

Excuse me, Powder Miner, that's a roast beef, not a rulebook.

Don't you mean =kitten tallow roast=? What is this 'roast beef' you talk of? I mean, it doesn't even have a quality marking.

I haven't played a Pantshelm 3.1 game since 1995.
I realize the rulebook is outdated, but the vile forces rules from the newer revisions are horribly complicated.  I try to stick to common rulesets whenever possible though, so the older Pantshelm and the Baron Shorast are my main two.
