Yay for odd layer depths
« on: April 11, 2012, 07:26:42 pm »

So while looking around at sites, I found one that's interesting, and I just thought I'd post about it.

It's pretty normal, the rock is somewhat shallow, but what is really weird I discovered when I revealed the map...

67 z-levels of SMR. 67. SMR.

whoopee?

Use DFHack -> "tubefill"

Pave ALL the roads in candy!

You can do this intentionally as well, using advanced worldgen to describe how thick each layer should be.

Mine all the delicious candy. Place it carefully into a dwarf-made cave. Add dragon. Sacrifice elven maidens.

Beat Dwarf Fortress.

Wasn't there a guy on here who beat the HFS straight on with an army consisting of most of the population?

See how small that number can go.

Actually, he beat HFS using a checkerboard. Then he proceeded to exterminate the entire population of his civilization in the process of turning hell into a vacation paradise.

How can it be a paradise If There's NO LEATHER!!!!???

Have them killed. Nothing solves a problem quite as effectively as simply having it killed.

Do you really think the dwarves would want to wear leather in that heat?

That's a real terrible idea.

Obviously the ultimate achievement is to beat HFS using no exploits. I'm not sure if this has been done yet, but it probably has.

Yes, the minimum layer depth can be changed with adv worldgen, but this one had a minimum of 5 for that layer. I have NEVER seen anything close to this, probably the deepest SMR I've ever seen was about 20 deep, this is 67 (actually a bit more, because it's 67 layers of almost uninterrupted SMR).

Who said anything about it being paradise for the dwarves?
The leather is for their gimp suits.

Hm, it appears most of the world has SMR about 40-70 layers deep. I just embarked on another site (on almost the other side of the map) and the SMR was extremely deep once again.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT: Embarked on another site, not as deep SMR, but still a fairly good amount.

That's a good bit of SMR. Well, could be odder.... could end up with an embark site where the magma sea is 25 z-layers below the surface like my game.

I've genned one with 14 layers before the magma sea. I was tempted to mine out every last tile, but I didn't feel like it. (I genned it using the normal world-generator).

I can personally confirm that it has - although, the term "exploit" is thrown around rather liberally sometimes, so your opinion may differ from mine.

And certainly, as noted, layer sizes can be modified during world gen to achieve desired results.

I know about Aussie, hell, I just had a turn on Swordthunders...

I meant, I could have sworn that some guy opened HFS, had an army waiting to meet them in combat, and won...
