hey man whatever works for you, i would get extra mags too, especially how the new laws might have a possibility to pass and ban hi-cap mags.

So, can someone tell me what's going on with gun laws, or at least point me in the direction of some reliable info about it? I try and search it, and all I get is "OMG GUNS WILL FOREVER BE BANNED" or "OMG GUNS NEED TO BE BANNED"

Based on what I've read they're going to try and get High capacity magazines banned, close the "gun show loophole", and renew the 1994 assault weapon ban.

That's too bad. I was hoping to have a saiga-12 someday.

Probably a good idea, I got my sks with 8 magazines (2 40's, 4 30's and 2 5's) and a little over 300 rounds. That was pretty fortunate as the ammo is getting pretty scarce, though not as impossible to find as .223. Pretty much the only thing that was missing was the trapdoor cleaning kit and bayonet.

The missing bayonet part is the most annoying part. I've been reading up and there are some very fiddly laws surrounding it. Its extremely confusing, but it probably can not be restored legally even though all it would take is screwing on one bolt. It just looks a little strange without it.

Edit: The actual movement on gun laws recently? Some executive orders that don't affect much. And a small but non zero chance of a high capacity magazine/scary black rifle ban. I can't see it getting through the house, may not even get through the senate.

Yeah, I already wrote my peeps and let them know of my concern of the magazine restrictions.  I suggest anyone with the ability to write also do so.  Handwritten letters can go a long way with the right people.

:D Got some ammo on delivery too. I still can't find any reasonable .223. Sucks I only have 20 rounds to fire once I use my laser bore sight to get the scope aligned.

alright last time i post for my father but we are running low on cash flow so maybe you guys want a nice rifle
http://www.gunclassifiedsutah.com/category/306/Rifles/listings/4922/Saiga-308-New-condition.html i believe he originally priced it above 1600 but now he wants around 1050 and 1300 if you want all the mags and scope mount. If you are out of state you can have the stuff delivered to a gun shop they can handle that type of shipping. My father loves this rifle but being out of work he can use any cash he can get.

.308s are pretty nice people. You don't run into the jamming issues like you do .45 and above.

EDIT: Remember FFL shipments only though. I know Tellemurius knows this but you should too. They charage a small fee for being the middle man.

It would be nice... but a 308 isn't exactly cheap to shoot.

On an annoying note for my sks... It is nearly impossible to insert a fully loaded magazine with the bolt closed. It works fine for 39 in a 40, 29 in 30 or 4 in a 5. And it works ok if I hold the bolt open to insert a full magazine, but that is decidedly awkward.

I'd imagine that's because the SKS wasn't originally designed to take AK magazines. The AK mag probably pushes the cartridges up a little higher than the SKS magazine well wants them, so when you're inserting on a closed bolt you're effectively trying to compress the magazine spring a little more, and when it's full that's going to be very hard.

Not really a problem for me—I have the Tapco duckbill 20-round magazines and one 75-round drum for my non-AK-magazine SKS, and both of those feed pretty reliably. I've been trying to fix a captive nut into the plastic Tapco stock I have, so I can add and remove the Tapco stock more easily, but so far I haven't been able to get the stupid nut to stay in the cavity I dremeled out for it. I'm going to try roughing all the surfaces up more seriously this weekend, and maybe that'll finally get the JB Weld to stick.

I ended up buying a Ruger GP100 (full size .357 Magnum revolver with a 4inch barrel) a couple days ago. Its my first handgun of my own. Its a solid block of stainless steel and requires almost zero maintenance. Using .38s it kicks so lightly that my sister or mother can shoot without difficulty. Now I can get a CCW permit if I want to, though actually concealing the thing is going to be possible only when it is cold enough to wear a coat. I can also use an indoor range near my work, so I don't have to make the long ass ride to the Alabama border to shoot at a rifle range.
