Black mamba breeding
« on: April 11, 2012, 05:41:47 pm »

Has anyone had any success with breeding Mambas?  I've had them in a room with chickens and other egg layers who have successfully hatched broods but have yet to have a single mamba egg hatch.

Unless you've modified your raws, your mambas won't breed. They lack the CHILD tag.

If you go into your save's raws, you can edit the black mamba and add the child tag yourself. This kind of edit (as long as you're editing the raws in your save folder and not the general ones) does NOT require a world regen since you are not adding an entirely new creature.

Go into creature_tropical_new.txt (again, in your save's raws) and search for black mamba. Stick the following somewhere near the top:

[CHILD:1][GENERAL_CHILD_NAME:black mamba hatchling:black mamba hatchlings]

EDIT: Not sure your current eggs will hatch. You should probably get rid of them and allow them to lay new eggs - and even then you won't have 100% fertility. Good luck!

Cool, was thinking I might have to dig into the raws but figured I would ask first.  Thanks.

I edited that on my own and it worked fine, though I did it for King cobra. Black mamba is probably better since they are more aggressive.
