The Snow
« on: April 11, 2012, 09:31:40 am »

here is the funniest thing that happened to me
yesterday i made a fortress and mined a huge fortress, the only living wildlife in this freezing biome are Ravens, sometimes you may see toads and dragonflies, or also mosquitoes.
the next day is the day that everything got worse, the first death that the fortress experienced is when they were all on a mission to kill a raven, one died. the next one died. then, it almost felt as if it is a protest, people were throwing tantrums, therefore i had to end the hunt, once they came back to the wagon, they started fighting each other and throwing every equipment in the wagon, some people also de-equipped corpses' equipments and stored them in a line, slowly, everyone started to die.

Don't go out in winter.  "Freezing" isn't a metaphor.

never heard of temperature related deaths, magma and being encased in ice aside.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

Never stated of freezing-related death, I missed how the people died, they died of thirst, and there was only about 3 barrels of food in the stockpiles.

I've witnessed it, explosively.

Yeah; I don't think it can occur with the default world paramaters, but extreme heat/cold will melt or freeze your dwarfs. Scorching biomes will melt fat like being on fire; I'm not sure about how freezing biomes kill you. If you embark somewhere _really_ hot, you get rivers/oceans that boil into steam on embark too, which are Fun.

Temperate biomes that freeze are fine.  Glaciers can be lethal, especially the ones at the very edge of the climate.

If, for example, they get a coating of water on a finger the whole finger immediately freezes. Or a spatter of blood. Makes combat extra dangerous
