Race and Civilization Name: Teleri
Race Description: Superficially, the Teleri are and appear very similar to humans, though they are generally taller and slimmer. Teleri have faster metabolic rates than humans, and their sensory skills are more advanced -especially in the realm of hearing, in order to adapt with their ever changing environment and climate. As day can easily shift to night and back again, due to the dual-suns and moons that orbit their homeworld.
The Teleri are known to be very spiritual in their daily lives, valuing the thoughts and mind-sets of others and perspective though not looking for intervention from their Gods if calamity occurs, relying on their combined power instead. Much of their culture is based on the passing of the Ages, with every Age significant to the events that occur in society. Wealth, Luxury and Self-gratification is second-priority to self-preservation and social survival.
Capital Name: Edhelin
Form of Government: Timocracy
Civilization Description:
The Telerin culture could be described as Athenian by a human, as though their government is militaristic in structure, the Teleri pride their aesthetic talents and focus more on the progress or essence of the individual: it's intangible connection to the ether, to others of it's kind and it's natural development. Loyalty, Trust and Cooperation are highly prized qualities that every Telerin look to emulate and follow. Telerin families are small and close-knit, generally community-minded, benefiting from dependence on each other to survive.
Young Telerin, at the age of ~17 years of age, are required to undertake a
Proving in order to mark their passing from a youngling into full adulthood. This Proving serves as an opportunity for the youngling to learn intrapersonal talents that couldn't be easily discovered whilst in a community, to discover themselves along the way, and to learn to appreciate life among others. This also serves as an opportunity for their military forces as it tests the individual in all aspects of their life, focusing on how an individual can perform if isolated and left to fend for themselves. Every individual Proving is a major event in a Telerin's life, their whole family gathers to see the youngling off, and they are given family heirlooms, memorable advice and personal gifts, passed from elder to youngling as a reminder of their eternal bond to their roots. The youngling cannot return until they have slain one of the many lethal creatures that roam the areas and secure a trophy that could stand the test of time -most preferably, the weapon that the creature uses to try to kill them, and return to a general location only disclosed between the youngling and the Prover, one of the government officials that oversee the whole process. The blood of the slain creature would then serve as a temporary tattoo along the face of the Telerin, made in their own personal style to signify the truth, as most corpses in that certain area are quickly scavenged and devoured by the beings that dwell there, bone and all.
The Government is headed by four Generals, rumored to be gifted extended lifespans by the communal will of their people. The first and foremost carries the Will of the people, able to sway the populace by Charisma and Intelligence as well as dispense wisdom and force when necessary -the Leader and known 'Head' of the World. The second lords over the Military, it's training and disciplinary course, and it's doctrine -the Arms Minister, a judge of equality in justice. The third carries the helm of the ages, a seeker of knowledge and an intrepid of daring -the Surveyor, Lorekeeper of the world, it's goings and a venerable source of advice in keeping Order in the society. The last general is not the least of them, nor does she hold any tangible power but is essential to keep the Government alive. She is the Seer, a female that carries the spiritual will of the people, a director of prophecy and the head of cultural and mythological events. In tandem with the other three, she carries the Tome of Ages, a compilation of knowledge and an archive of Edhelin, an artifact that is said to be the first weapon that brought the Teleri to dominance over the planet though no visible words are seen on the pages.
Honor and Dignity, above all, is held as the most unifying power in the Telerin mind. Without these, they know their society will fall.
