I'm afraid that doesn't work, then. Hive minds just don't fit what I'm looking for here. With your permission, though, I'll add them as a NPC race.

You know, considering the angle of the game, we have a suprising number of applications for hive races or nomadics. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but in view that we are all going to play a power within the civilization, its better to start with "standard" society, like Terrans, Dalorians or the Human-Mech, just because we have greater scope for action.

But hey, once we have a poll we can vote. Its just my 2 cents.

Mistake in posting and haste in the editing.

I truly apologize to everyone who thought I posted down a sheet earlier and if it had given off other indications.

Spoiler: Mostly Finished (click to show/hide)
Still fixing up the minute cultural aspects but alright in general.

Looking good, Tiruin!

@Ardas: There's nothing really wrong with nomads. They'd make a different sort of game than settled races, but it would certainly be unique and challenging.

Hey, I never said it was bad. I'm of the same mind as you. I'm just trying to make sense of it, as nomads aren't likely to wage internal wars for resources or territory, so the disunifying powers would have to be radically different. Also, there needs to be a reason behind them being nomads. On Earth its easy when you have plains and horses. But permament travel in the void of space: quite difficult and trequires a high degree of technological sophistication.

But if you can make it work I look forward to it.

Disunifying Powers aren't usually openly hostile - except in high-end autocracies - unless you royally piss them off. It's more of a passive resistance, blasting their Dear Leader in media and propaganda, 'losing' draft orders in bureaucracy/discouraging volunteer recruitment, pocketing the fruits of their industries for themselves, etc. etc. They can be anything from the corporate interests of a high-industrial world, to a specific political movement or religion, or a single powerful person or group - in your Terrans' case an example Disunifying Power could be the Federation Parliament/Senate, which its myriad political parties, or the nations and cultures of Earth who have not signed whatever pact made the Federation into being, and are still independent in name.

Fair enough. I wasn't excatly clear on the concept, but now that you explained it, I see it now.

And the poll is up! Lacking are greatorder's race, for previously stated reasons, and 10ebbor's - though it will be added the moment someone fills in the blanks for it, as long as it clears up its hive-mindedness as well.

Any votes for Terrans should also include a vote for their second trait.

Race Name: ....( Bad at names)
Race Description:
Physical: Depends on castes. Generally antlike. The lower castes are smaller and fragile, while the higher castes are much larger. Size ranges between 1 m to several metes large.
Worker: Small but fast. Sometimes has wings. Not intelligent, but very good at imitating and learning what others do.
Soldier: Large and slow. Large mandibles. Not very intelligent, but will cooperate well with other soldiers, making tactics a possibility.
Queen: Large. Ensure the survival of the species. non-intelligent.
King: Quite small, winged, large. Not very intelligent. Ensures the survival of the species.
Abomination: Recently ants among all castes have started to get greater intelligence and selfconsience. While they mostly do their job, a rebel can cause huge problems( Since other ants will follow it's lead). A large number of this ants goes unnoticed in the civ, while some have taken it onto themselves to help the hive forward( researching, snuffing out rebels ,... )
More castes excist, but are mostly nonimportant.

Mental: All ants have low individual intelligence, though they do show a great memetic capability. Problems are always solved in the thousand monkeys on thousand typewriters will eventually produce shakespeares work way. Castes are fit and teached for one job, and loss of life is not considered dramatic. Through a complicated system of pheromones and other, the race can act quite strange in groups( Military tactics, for example)
Civilization Name (if separate from race):...
Capital Name: (name of capital world): .... ( The world is a generally earthlike world, but with higher atmospheric pressure and oxygen.( The way insects breath otherwise prevents them from becoming large)
Form of Government: Collective intelligence unofficially headed by a parliament of abominations
Civilization Description:

The .... lived on their planet for a long time, and mostly live in giant underground cities. These hives can be quite large, going up to 500 meters in the air and 2 km down. Most of these are being rapidly modernised, as knowledge spreads itself throught the population. They were in medieval leves of tech only a few years ago, untill an alien vessel landed on the planet. Contact went well and was mostly guided by the abominations. That was untill one of the spacefarers, decided to pat one of his mates on the back. The surrounding non abominations tried to copy this gesture, which quickly resulted in the deads of all spacefarers. Their ship was dissassembled and studied, and it wasn't long before the ... had their own spacefleet and set out for the stars.

While they aren't that common, the ... are both a plague and blessing in the universe, not in the least because of their habit of imitating others, leading them to randomly partake into others wars, follow others space ship and other misunderstandings.

Civilization Traits: (see below, pick 0-2. You can also suggest custom traits.)

- Adaptive: While not being good at trying out new things, they can quickly reverse engineer and use what's given to them.
- Defensive Traditions (Extensive starting planetary/system fortifications, increased defensive traits)  Most of the hives are so old that they have become part of the landscape, and thus are very hard to destroy.

The blanks include the names, man. Just mash random syllables together. And please write down your ruler, or specify if you have no single one.
