I once desided to do some !!SCEINCE!! with the travel speed of lava and animals. The plan was to drop various animals in a hole with one layer of lava and see if the animal could fall faster then the lava, thus survive. I tryed it with a cat, it died, then with a puppy, it died, then a dog, it died, then a water buffolo..... this one fel through the lava, landed under it, ran around a bit on fire and then died. Then i tried an elephant, which actuly survived! It fell through a layer of lava faster then it could flow down, and survived with some melted fat! Hazzah!

Ah indeed, would've solved my problem that one. Then again, I do like my foresty/grassy inner yard.

I had a similar problem when my dwarves dumped some corpses into a magma channel I hadn't secured. I fully intended to use the chute to dump meltable stuff, like corpses, but then I forgot to put walls around the chute so the magma mist the falling goodies created wouldn't roast my smiths. So of course 3-4 dwarves burned to death the very first time I dumped corpses into it

Dirt IS flooring of the non-flammable variety.

Of course I just pave around the magma opening.

Apparently, a puppy slipped in to the volcano which created some magma mist, which then started a bushfire, which then burned 70% of the whole population of my fort. Aren't we having !!FUN!! yet?
